WWE Saturday Night's Main Event 38 Spoilers |
Intercontinental Championship Match: Bron Breakker (c) vs Sheamus
At some point, I really want Sheamus to win this title and cross it off his bucket list. The guy deserves to be a Grand Slam Champion. But I don't think I want it to happen here, just the same as how I didn't want it to happen any other time The Celtic Warrior was facing Bron Breakker.
That is because I want them to continue to build Breakker up to a higher level than what he's currently at, and with him failing to win the IC title on the first go-around, eventually dropping it momentarily to Jey Uso, and spending a lot of time not defending it, I don't feel like we're getting the main-event-maker run with this midcard belt yet. If he loses this title, I don't know what he does at WrestleMania, and I don't want Breakker to just be a guy lost in the shuffle of the non-Mania Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. I don't really want that for Sheamus, either, for that matter, but I could live with that more.
I could see an argument for Sheamus winning this here so that there is a title change that goes down and it still makes it seem like SNME is a place where anything can happen. It would still shock me if Sheamus were to win the title, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.
I'm still going with Breakker keeping it in his possession, though. The smart bet in this scenario is to just keep the status quo.
PREDICTION: Bron Breakker retains.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs Jey Uso
No way is Jey Uso winning this title when:
1) They couldn't even trust him with the intercontinental title for a full month
2) Gunther has barely lost to anyone, and has beaten Jey before
3) This feud came out of nowhere
4) We're heading toward WrestleMania season.
It's just not happening. They decided they wanted Gunther to defend his title at this show (which likely means he's not doing anything at Royal Rumble other than watching from a skybox or something) and they looked at the roster, figured Jey was a popular enough opponent who could be sacrificed, and that's it.
Hopefully, one of these days, Jey reaches a point where he can be taken more seriously as a world title contender, as I don't want anyone to misconstrue my prediction as crapping on him. He's great. It's just not at all his time to win this title. We're looking at a surefire guarantee he comes up short here.
PREDICTION: Gunther retains.
Contract Signing: Shawn Michaels Moderates Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens
It's always good to see my favorite of all time. HBK will end up doing very little, though. He'll have his entrance, say a few lines, usher in Rhodes and Owens, and at most, say that he's a special guest referee/enforcer for the match. They'll relinquish the titles and I'm assuming will get into some kind of brawl.
PREDICTION: n/a
Women's World Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Nia Jax
A year later, after having this match for this title at Elimination Chamber at the beginning of February, these two are at it again. Frankly, I don't quite know why this is being randomly thrown in there right now. Jax pretty abruptly went from getting cashed in on by Tiffany Stratton to being on Raw, glaring at Ripley's title, but still ended up wrestling Bayley again after this whole past year? They're stuck in a holding pattern while also wanting to move on, but not to anything in particular. It's strange.
Anyway, obviously, Ripley retains. There's no question about that. Jax is at this point one of only two women who are confirmed for the Royal Rumble. Even if the momentum wasn't on Ripley's side, it would make no sense for Jax to win the belt here and be taken out of the rumble.
Braun Strowman vs. Jacob Fatu
Yes. Awesome. I'm down.
Fatu wins this because he's the younger star who needs to get that rub and is starting a new war path where it seems like he'll be feuding potentially with Solo Sikoa. In order for him to look strong, he beats The Monster Among Men here.
This page will be altered on a regular basis to reflect changes to the show including any new matches added to the lineup, adjustments to the card, revised predictions and any other information about this event. Stay tuned for the latest updates!
