WWE Saturday Night's Main Event makes its return in less than two weeks, and the card has started to fill up after last night's edition of WWE Monday Night Raw and the addition of two more title matches to the lineup.
Given that it is a two-hour show that will have to fill some time for commercial breaks, as well as possibly something involving Roman Reigns, it can be assumed these four matches will be the only ones to take place. There likely won't be any room for any more to be added to the card.
With that in mind, what is likely to go down during this special broadcast? The card is always subject to change, and there are still some unknowns lingering, but we should have a solid idea of what's to come.
Let's break down some predictions for WWE Saturday Night's Main Event XXXVII!
Event Information
Before getting too deep into the card itself, it's important to mention some information on what this actually will be, how you can watch it, and when this will go down.
Saturday Night's Main Event will take place December 14, 2024 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island (Uniondale), New York.
Interestingly, despite how both WWE and UFC are sister companies underneath the same TKO Group for Endeavor, they will be in competition with one another for this show, as UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Buckley will also air on December 14th. We here at Smark Out Moment will be watching WWE, obviously, so you'll have to do your own MMA research for more information about the breakdown of that card, the current UFC betting odds, and what is expected to happen there with Mackenzie Dern vs Amanda Ribas, Cub Swanson vs Billy Quarantillo and more. Those shows will air on ESPN2 and ESPN+
Saturday Night's Main Event, on the other hand, will stream on Peacock and air live on NBC as a special event starting at 8 p.m. ET.
Tickets can be purchased here for those who can attend live and in-person.
For those curious, this will be the first true Saturday Night's Main Event since the summer of 2008 (recorded July 28, aired August 2) which was main-evented by Edge defeating Jeff Hardy. WWE repurposed the name Saturday Night's Main Event in April 2022 to be used for house shows that took place on Saturday nights, corresponding with the Sunday Stunner branding used for...you guessed it...Sunday night house shows. Future house shows are now just listed as "WWE Live Holiday Tour" and the traditional "Road to WrestleMania" tour, and that is it, seemingly suggesting the Sunday Stunner name has also been tossed aside in this process.
Women's World Championship Match: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Iyo Sky
As much as Iyo Sky has a track record of success, it is instead a much safer bet to go with Liv Morgan retaining her title.
Not only does Morgan have Raquel Rodriguez by her side to help out, as we can expect her to interfere somewhere during the match, but the rest of The Judgment Day can get involved as well. While Sky has her Damage CTRL teammates (Dakota Kai and Kairi Sane, but no Asuka, as she is still injured), the numbers advantage tips far toward Morgan, who has Raquel, Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor, JD McDonagh and Carlito at her disposal.
Granted, Rhea Ripley does have the potential to aid Sky and get some revenge on Morgan after a year of feuding with her, but The Eradicator may be more of a hindrance than a benefit. That is because it is far more likely Ripley is the one to beat Morgan for the title than Sky, who could just be in this match because WWE wishes to stall and stretch out the inevitable rematch between Ripley and Morgan a little while longer.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. Finn Balor
The men's world title for the Raw brand is also not in much jeopardy, but in this case, having The Judgment Day at Finn Balor's disposal isn't going to help much. While yes, those same parties could get involved and would offset Gunther's only help in Ludwig Kaiser, it just isn't practical to bet on WWE taking the title off The Ring General, particularly at this stage in his career, at this time of the year, and to drop it to Balor of all people.
Balor's only world title reign lasted one day. It was cut short due to an injury, but if WWE ever felt the need to put him back in that prominent of a position, it would have happened by now, as it was over 8 years ago. Stranger things have happened, but it is unreasonable to assume Balor is being set up for another world title reign and that he will be the one heading into WrestleMania 41 season over this year's King of the Ring that has been booked so strongly.
Gunther is not only going to walk into WrestleMania with the title, but depending on his opponent, may very well leave that show still champion. His biggest competition would be if he's up against John Cena, as WWE may wish to give him his 17th world title. In the meantime, Balor is guaranteed to come up short here, and that may come about by some interference from Damian Priest getting some revenge on how Balor not only cost him this title at SummerSlam against Gunther, but screwed The Archer of Infamy out of potentially winning it back at Survivor Series.
Tournament Final for the Inaugural WWE Women's United States Championship: TBD vs. TBD
As it stands, the two Superstars competing for this title have not yet been revealed, as more matches need to take place to settle who is in the finals for the WWE Women's United States Championship.
However, based on the brackets, Bayley will face Chelsea Green in the semifinals and Michin will face either Naomi, Tiffany Stratton, or Elektra Lopez. Essentially, Naomi or Stratton, as Lopez stands no chance to win this title whatsoever.
In the name of star power alone, Michin ranks the lowest, though she shouldn't be entirely counted out. That is especially true if Green beats Bayley, as Michin has defeated Green somewhat recently. But having the finals be Bayley against Naomi or Stratton, or Green against Naomi, feels more likely.
This will remain a toss-up until the eve prior to Saturday Night's Main Event, as the semifinals take place on Friday Night SmackDown on December 13th.
WWE has never had midcard titles for the women's division on the main roster, so there is no precedent to judge predictions based on, as the men's titles have been around for so many decades that the current regime's approach to creating new champions doesn't have enough evidence. At most, the World Heavyweight Championship first went to Seth Rollins and the NXT Women's North American Championship first went to Kelani Jordan, so there's a 50/50 split between going with a top star with the biggest name value versus going with a promising up-and-comer to establish a firmer "midcard" status.
With that in mind, Bayley is the most established star with Naomi in second-place, Stratton would be on the next tier but is already holding the Money in the Bank briefcase (which would make winning this title almost redundant and strange), and Green and Michin are the next tier after that, but would both make great champions, as neither is likely to win a women's world title any time soon.
Undisputed WWE Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens
Lastly, the main event of the show goes back to being much more predictable. As much as WWE would want you to think Kevin Owens has The American Nightmare's number, it simply isn't going to happen.
Cody Rhodes has a match lingering with The Rock. Barring any kind of unforeseen circumstance like an injury, he's not dropping the title prior to that match, whenever that takes place. The potential for a feud opposite Randy Orton is also on the table in a way that would take priority over Owens, who already lost to Rhodes at Bash in Berlin. This rematch is just a means to extend that feud and get a few more months out of that storyline, rather than moving Cody on to a new opponent.
WrestleMania season is right around the corner. Soon enough, it will be time to start building toward either Rhodes against The Rock, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, or some combination of those. Owens will be over and done with and will move on to feud with someone else, while Saturday Night's Main Event will end with the undisputed WWE champion standing strong.
