WWE NXT RESULTS: July 16, 2024
- Six-Man Tag Team Match: The Rascalz defeated Gallus by pinfall. Joe Hendry was on commentary during the match, as evoked by Vic Joseph saying his name. Later in the night, Gallus complained about Joe Hendry, who appeared and declared himself the most talked-about star in NXT, saying he's going to "stick around". Gallus retorted that when people think of Scotland, they think of themselves and Drew McIntyre, not him.
- Backstage Segment: In Ava's office, Ethan Page and Oro Mensah had a tense confrontation. Mensah challenged Page to a title match, but Ava stated Mensah wasn't currently in the title picture. Despite this, Page agreed to face Dante Chen in a title match.
- Promo: Roxanne Perez addressed the crowd about her recent victory over Lola Vice, criticizing new signings and future debuts Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer. She then called out Thea Hail as her next challenger. Hail said she used to admire Perez, and vowed to win the title at the Great American Bash, leading to a brawl between the two.
- Interview: During Kelani Jordan's interview with Kelly Kincaid, where she praised Sol Ruca, Wendy Choo interrupted.
- Post-Commercial Interview: Lola Vice was interviewed and interrupted by Jacy Jayne, Jasmyn Nyx, and Fallon Henley, who belittled her and told her she should go back to MMA. Vice then put out a challenge for a match with Jayne.
- Je'Von Evans defeated Brooks Jensen by pinfall. Post-match, Jensen attacked Evans until Josh Briggs intervened.
- Backstage: Charlie Dempsey asked Tony D'Angelo for some advice over how to handle Wren Sinclair witnessing his excommunication of Damon Kemp from last week. D'Angelo said he was impressed with Dempsey, as he didn't think he had it in him, but he would have to handle it himself. Later in the show, Sinclair approached No Quarter Catch Crew, telling them she wants to join the group, threatening to expose what happened and saying one way or another, she'll wrestle her way into their cold hearts and into the group itself, while play grappling with Myles Borne.
- Backstage: Trick Williams tried to get some advice from Ilja Dragunov about losing the NXT Championship, but The Mad Dragon wasn't of much help. More so than Pete Dunne, though, who just told Williams to "figure it out" before walking away.
- NXT Championship Match: Ethan Page (c) defeated Dante Chen by pinfall. Oro Mensah attacked Page post-match.
- Tatum Paxley defeated Izzi Dame by pinfall. Wendy Choo accompanied Paxley, hinting at their partnership. Later, Kelani Jordan bumped into Paxley backstage and turned down her offer to play with Choo's doll. Paxley tossed that aside and picked up another that looked more like Jordan.
- Backstage Segment: Ashante "Thee" Adonis was distracted by the NXT women (Kendal Grey, Carlee Bright and Arianna Grace) before flirting with Jakara Jackson, which upset Lash Legend (who turned Adonis down, even though he wasn't hitting on her) and Oro Mensah, who he'll face in a match next week.
- Lola Vice defeated Jacy Jayne by pinfall. After the match, Sol Ruca and Karmen Petrovic helped Vice fend off an attack from Jayne, Nyx, and Henley.
- Six-Person Mixed Tag Team Match: The O.C. defeated OTM by pinfall.
- A super quick segment was shown of Lexis King messing with Eddy Thorpe's DJ set and fighting with him.
- Oba Femi (c) retained the NXT North American Championship over Duke Hudson by pinfall.
- Brooks Jensen stormed out of the WWE Performance Center, angry at Josh Briggs, who he blamed for losing tonight and has challenged him to a No Disqualification match for next week.
AUTHOR'S REVIEW / HOT TAKES / THOUGHTS:
- Apologies for the late coverage this week.
- That Thorpe/King thing was so stupid.
- Sinclair trying to join NQCC is fun and interesting. I like how much advice was being sought out this week, too. What a unique little wrinkle.
- Some good matches here, namely the opener and the main event.
- WWE should really sign Joe Hendry.
- Thea Hail has no chance to win the title, but I like that she's in contention.
- Elsewhere, why does Oro Mensah have a match against Ashante Adonis next week when he's so much more focused on Ethan Page? Couldn't Adonis be fighting anyone else, like the bevy of no-names who only lose like Cutler James, Kale Dixon, Keanu Carver, etc? Or, better yet, maybe he could be hitting on Brinley Reece and it would lead to a tag team match against Malik Blade and Edris Enofe?
