Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of TNA’s Impact Wrestling.
This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: MAY 16, 2024 RESULTS
#5 - Killing Time, The Definition
Despite what the title might say, this week’s main event wasn’t tedious, nor did it feel like anyone involved was phoning in their performance. The biggest tag team match in TNA history (allegedly, I haven’t looked into whether or not that’s true yet) saw all of TNA’s champions on one team, against potential challengers and Ryan Nemeth on the other. Broken Matt Hardy, Joe Hendry, Spitfire, the challengers team were mostly faces, with the champions team mostly heels, making it interesting to see the dynamics mix within said teams.
To recap all that happened would take forever. But it was fun. This writer certainly wouldn’t be opposed to another Champions Challenge match in the future.
#4 - Rarified Ring Time
I will admit with no hesitation that Dana Brooke was never a favourite of mine in WWE. She just wasn’t that good. And similarly, the Ash by Elegance gimmick, to me, is…eh. Just eh. But I’d be lying if I said she hasn’t improved in the ring. While some might say she adds unnecessary touches to her moves, like the cartwheels, her in-ring work has a lot more charm than it did.
Pair that with natural babyface Xia Brookside, herself on a string of good performances, and you get a pretty decent opening match for Impact. Their feud has been, while not great, fun, and this match was a good showcase for both. Ash would win by hitting Rarified Air, but, after demanding Xia kiss the ring, would eat a ring-assisted punch to the face.
#3 - Please God, Give Us This
Rosemary got an interesting vignette this week, hinting at, after what feels like a lifetime, another singles run. With Havok seemingly sidelined by the aforementioned ABE, Rosemary reflected on how their tag partners, Havok, the Valkyrie, the Bunny, were meant to make them more human, and realises this was the problem.
Please, let Rosemary win the Knockouts title again. It’s been long enough.
#2 - Fade to Black and Green
This match was put together to make one person look good, and his name is Steve Maclin. Facing Frankie Kazarian after their brief alliance fell apart recently, Maclin was treated like a bull by the matador Kaz this week, the veteran doing everything in his power to avoid the storm that is Maclin.
Even when the former world champion was taking damage, it was all in service of making him seem like a force of nature, like getting back in the ring after taking a back bump off the apron to the floor. What’s more, it took the efforts of 3 men to give Kaz the win, as it was only with the interference of the Rascalz that Kaz was able to hit Fade to Black, and get the win. The Rascalz might have won the battle, but it’s clear to all to see who’s winning the war.
#1 - I’m Tired, No Pun For You
The most exciting match from this week’s episode involved one of, in the opinions of many, one of the most exciting young talents in wrestling right now, Leon Slater, taking on Alan Angels. Angels, who has been hosting the Sound Check more often than wrestling as of late in TNA, reminded everyone why he’s so deceptively good at his job here, playing the smarky, sneaky heel to Slater’s honest, resilient babyface well.
Jt was clear from the start who the better wrestler was, and Slater made it official by k red the win with
