This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: MAY 9, 2024 RESULTS
#5 - First Class Victory
In the first match from this week’s edition of Impact, First Class put in a performance befitting their name, taking on the new generation of the FBI. Accompanied as always by the former Nunzio, this was perhaps their best effort yet, but they’ve a way to go before they’re, excuse the pun, flying first class. AJ Francis would hit a chokeslam, followed by a Frog Splash from Rich Swann, for the win.
#4 - The People Have Spoken
A former tag team reunited on this week’s Impact, as Cody Deaner and Jake Something-formerly known as Cousin Jake- took on the Rascalz. At the start of the match, Deaner held a poll regarding the stipulation of the bout, and a Tornado Tag was decided.
This was the most fun a Deaner match has felt in god knows when. While heel Deaner has more going on in the character department, he’s a lot more palatable in-ring as a face. Less filler, less hollow playing to the ground. Deaner’s scrappy energy, accompanied by Something’s undeniable presence and force, made for a great set of opponents for the Rascalz, who were on top form as always here.
In the end, Deaner would prove the weak link, as once Trey Miguel neutralised Something with a spray paint can, a tag combo was all it took for the Rascalz to get the win. That wouldn’t be the end of the night for the Rascalz though, as…
#3 - KIA-Killed in Albany
After picking up the win against the team fka as the Deaners, the Rascalz were re-treating up the ramp when their former friend and ally Steve Maclin came barrelling down, taking out both Wentz and Miguel. Maclin would then storm backstage to be greeted by McKenzie Mitchell, but this was interrupted by the short term alliance between Maclin and Frankie Kazarian dissolving in a heated argument. Maclin, it would seem, is firmly on his own.
#2 - Have a Little Lovecraft With Your Wrestling
Jonathan Gresham’s confusing but intriguing gimmick continued to take shape this week. The now masked man built on the momentum gained at Under Siege against Kushida by facing an enhancement talent this week. Gresham’s offence, whilst still keeping the same themes and methods, feels a lot sharper, a lot more malicious than it did. It’s quicker. Gresham would make short order of the talent, finishing him with an ink-assisted Mandible Claw.
#1 - Bullet Vs Mountain
Joining commentary, Mustafa Ali watched on as two teams competed to get on step closer to a shot at his title this week. While Ali’s cheating has helped him hold on to the title as of late, it hasn’t helped him shake off his challengers, as instead of moving to the back of the queue, recent opponents in the ABC faced Speedball Mountain, with the stipulation being the winning team going on to face each other for the next shot against Ali.
Fast-paced, full of action and swinging back and forth like a pendulum, this was the kind of main event tag that TNA is known for. The MCMG might be gone from the company, but their influence is not. The resentment of Ali would be what cost the ABC the match, as Ace Austin spent a little too much time talking to Ali on the outside, which allows Trent Seven to recover from a dive, and set in motion the win for Speedball Mountain.
