WWE WRESTLEMANIA 41 NIGHT 1 (SATURDAY) RESULTS:
Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Jey Uso
RESULT: Jey Uso wins the title by submission!
THOUGHTS: By submission?? Gunther taps?? I don't like that at all. I'm cool with Jey winning the title (even if that's not what I would have been booking for WrestleMania this year by any means), but I don't think Gunther should've tapped out. I wonder why they went in that direction. Weird choice. Also, for all the criticisms that Jey is nothing but an entrance, they gave him a very lame, underwhelming entrance, didn't they? The match was fine, but again, I don't like the finish.
World Tag Team Championship Match: The War Raiders Erik & Ivar (c) vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods)
RESULT: The New Day won the titles by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Look, I love The New Day, and I'm very fond of The War Raiders, but this absolutely shouldn't have been on the card in comparison to the TLC match we're getting for SmackDown's WWE Tag Team Championship titles next Friday. This could have very much been a Raw title change or something. Of course, I still think they don't need 3 hours of pre-shows both nights, and all titles should be on the line at WrestleMania including this one, but given the cuts, I don't see why this was chosen to take priority. I'm assuming we'll get a gimmick No DQ type of thing in the future.
Jade Cargill vs. Naomi
RESULT: Jade Cargill won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Solid match. Good performances from both. Thumbs up.
Singles Match for the United States Championship: LA Knight (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
RESULT: Jacob Fatu won the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Fatu's the man. The match was good, and I'm glad he won the title. Hopefully, WWE doesn't lose track of Knight now that he doesn't have the title. Now when are we getting the feud with Solo Sikoa? Also, very cool to see Haku be able to celebrate with him.
El Grande Americano vs. Rey Fenix
RESULT: El Grande American won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: In the ring, it was good, but it's very disappointing that this was basically a Raw match. Even with the announcement of WWE purchasing AAA, and having Chad Gable push El Hijo del Vikingo ringside, as well as Vikingo helping Fenix up after the match, they didn't do any kind of an angle or anything.
Singles Match for the WWE Women's Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Charlotte Flair
RESULT: Tiffany Stratton retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: To be honest, I'm surprised they didn't just go with Flair. I'm happy about that, though. Flair's title reign would have been a bore, and while I'm not loving Stratton's, it's at least better by default. This match was solid, but we've had much better.
Triple Threat Match: CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins
RESULT: Seth Rollins won by pinfall over Reigns.
THOUGHTS: So they went with the idea of Paul Heyman screwing over both Punk and Reigns. I'm curious where the future of this tale goes. On paper, it's interesting, that's for sure. The match was very good and even though I still think this year's WrestleMania should have been something else, I enjoyed this main event.
WWE WRESTLEMANIA 41 NIGHT 2 (SUNDAY) RESULTS:
Triple Threat Match for the Women's World Championship Match: Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley
RESULT: Iyo Sky won by pinfall over Bianca Belair
THOUGHTS: You put these three together, you know you're getting a good match. They did a fantastic job. Thumbs up for a great opener.
Sin City Street Fight: Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre
RESULT: Drew McIntyre won by pinfall.THOUGHTS: Solid match. I still wish these guys had something more impactful to do at WrestleMania this year, but they put on a good performance and I hope WWE doesn't lose track of that. They both deserve good runs throughout 2025 into WrestleMania 42.
Fatal 4-Way Match for the Intercontinental Championship: Bron Breakker (c) vs. Dominik Mysterio vs. Finn Balor vs. Penta
RESULT: Dominik Mysterio won by pinfall on Finn Balor!THOUGHTS: Hell yeah! I was rooting for Dom. Good match with the perfect ending to it. Major thumbs up.
Open Challenge: Randy Orton vs. Joe Hendry
RESULT: Randy Orton won by pinfall.THOUGHTS: Wow, Joe Hendry! I didn't think they'd do it. That's pretty damn cool. The match was short, but they knew that the real fun of it was the reveal more than anything else. This must feel so good for Hendry, and for that matter, for WWE to give him that spotlight over the other options could very well be a MAJOR sign for his future and the future of TNA. I think this is a bigger deal than it might seem on face value. Cool moment after the match of Orton raising Hendry's hand and all, too.
AJ Styles vs. Logan Paul
RESULT: Logan Paul won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Not the best match of the night. Lame finish, too, with Styles refusing Karrion Kross's offer to use the brass knuckles, and just walking into a normal punch and a Paulverizer. They could've done something more bombastic.
Women's Tag Team Championship Match: Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez (c) vs. Becky Lynch & Lyra Valkyria
RESULT: Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria won the titles by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: The weakest match on the card. It's good to see Becky Lynch back, but I feel bad for Bayley. I also don't think it's a great idea to double up on Valkyria holding two titles. #JusticeForChelseaGreenToo
Undisputed WWE Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. John Cena
RESULT: John Cena won the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: I wasn't anticipating this to be a Match of the Year candidate, so I'm not judging it through that lens. In the grand scheme of WrestleMania main events, they did their job. This is far more about the star power and the moment of the title change than the maneuvers they did between bells. It'll be very interesting to see how Cena's heel turn and title reign plays out over the coming months. I'm down for it. Hopefully, fans don't just turn on Cody Rhodes like they did here (lame that audiences will always follow that trend), as he deserves to win the title more in the future. For now, he should take some time off, I think, as he also deserves that time away to heal up and rest.
