IMPACT WRESTLING: MARCH 21, 2024 RESULTS
#5 - Best Feet Forward
Mustafa Ali sat in on commentary for a six man to determine his next challenger this week. The mercurial, politicking champion watched as Kevin Knight, Chris Bey, Alan Angels, Jason Hotch, Jake Something and recent TNA signee battled for the right to face him, and seemed to favour throughout those who he thought would pose the least amount of threat to him. He cheered for Hotch, who was publicly announced in his entrance to be competing only to ensure no one else gets a shot at Ali, and Bey, who Ali respects, but feels he could beat as he's of a similar size.
The winner of the match, Something, clearly caused Ali panic from the start. Saying there must be some limits in the division about no limits, Ali's intimidation at Something's size continued after the match ended, calling Something “3x the size of anyone else in the ring.” Here’s hoping their match for the title is 3x as fun as this show-opener.
#4 - Crazzy Formulaic
There seems to be a pattern emerging in Crazzy Steve’s matches for the Digital Media championship. He never definitively beats someone, he escapes. In his defense against Rhino, he pinned the Man Beast after dodging an attempted Spear through a table. In this defense against PCO, he had a little outside help.
Steve was scrappy to start, but PCO soon took control, nailing big bombs like the Deanimator. Just as the tide was turning in his favour, PCO’s recent rival Kon made an appearance, chucking weapons in the ring, clearly wanting another round with the French-Canadian Frankenstein, who, despite nailing a dive on Kon, would soon be slammed onto an assortment of chairs, back first. This would allow Steve to get PCO in the ring, and quickly get the pin and win.
This wasn’t as fun as it should have been.
#3 - Slow News Week
Alright, let’s talk about Ash By Elegance. The former Dana Brooke had her third match for TNA this week, facing returning jobber and spelling bee threat Seleziya Sparx. Not even going 5 minutes, Ash won the match with an admittedly impressive Swanton, going halfway across the ring to land it.
She would attack Sparx with a chair after the match, placing the chair on Sparx and climbing the ropes for another Swanton, but standing in her way was Xia Brookside, making the save and setting up a feud.
#2 - Splitting Teeth
After dispatching a freshly babyface Deaner, the GVY clashed with the Timesplitters this week, continuing their feud after their trios match at Sacrifice. This was a war of attrition, with both teams picking a limb and going to work on it, as well as a mending of fences between Shelley and KUSHIDA.
On top of all the good technical graps, the Timesplitters going for the arm, the GVY for the leg, there was cohesion on the side of the faces. Shelley and KUSHIDA were like a well-oiled machine, with KUSHIDA even adopting some of Shelley’s tactics, such as attacking their opponent from the apron while the ref was distracted.
All of that cohesion, this fluidity, earned them the win, as with the help of a Shelley superkick, KUSHIDA got the win with the Hoverboard Lock.
#1 - Roll Through the Brick City
In this week’s main event. Tasha Steelz got her wish, facing Jordynne Grace for the Knockouts Title one on one, after failing to capture the belt in their Sacrifice encounter that also included Xia Brookside. Steelz has clearly never heard the phrase “be careful what you wish for”, because she sure got it.
Grace was on her challenger from the start, and stayed in control for much of the match. Explosive strikes and powerful throws had Steelz reeling, and although she, as always, had cunning counters up her sleeve, her attempts at the Cutter and Blackout Crucifix never yielded fruit. Steelz fell to Grace like all the rest, eating a Juggernaut Driver and a pin.
