This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: FEBRUARY 22, 2024 RESULTS
#5 - Losing Sanity
Eric Young came to the ring this week expecting to settle things with Frankie Kazarian, who kicked off his heel run by betraying and attacking EY a month ago. Kaz would, in typical heel fashion, inform EY that the match would be happening on his time, not anyone else's. In his place was a "ghost" from Young's past, a rather large and hairy one at that, as Big Damo made his way to the ring to face his former Sanity stablemate.
The two had a fun, compact David and Goliath style match, one that ended when Young lifted Damo up presumably for the Piledriver, but ended up hitting something more akin to the Styles Clash. After the bell, Young would get on the mic and make the challenge to Kaz for a match the following day at No Surrender.
#4 - Short and Sweet
After explaining his grudge against Josh Alexander last week, Simon Gotch made his in-ring debut for the company this, against enhancement talent Jack Price, who it must be said, bumped his ass off for Gotch. With Alexander joining commentary for the match, unable to lay a hand on Gotch until No Surrender due to a no contact clause in the contract for their match, all the Walking Weapon could do is join us in watching the former Vaudevillian quickly dispatch his opponent with stiff uppercuts, sentons to the back, and finally, fittingly, a Gotch Piledriver, before locking in the Bulldog Choke for the win.
Gotch wouldn't let go of the hold after the bell, prompting Alexander to enter the ring and square off against his No Surrender opponent. Despite both men clearly wanting to get physical, no punches were thrown on this night, and so the match for No Surrender stayed on.
#3 - Running Up That Mountain
Trent Seven, following quite a win over Shera on Xplosion, faced off against Steve Maclin this week, as part of ongoing tensions between Speedball Mountain and Maclin and the Rascalz. Much of this match was Maclin on top, punishing the elder wrestler, who, as always, put in quite the performance as the underdog. There's something about Seven that makes him easy to root for, little things like the fear in his eyes when he's in a submission.
As usual when it comes to a match with the Rascalz, interference would be the name of the day. They had attempted to interfere prior in the match, only to be dealt with by Speedball and then Seven with a series of top rope moonsaults to the outside. This time, Bailey would sweep Miguel off the apron, Seven would send Wenz packing out of the ring, but the abandoned Maclin would have, at this point, had enough time to recover, and would run through his signature offense, before hitting the KIA for the win.
#2 - In Sabin We Trust
Opening this week's episode was Chris Sabin against the younger half of the Good Hands, Jason Hotch, in non-title action ahead of his match against Mustafa Ali at No Surrender. Hotch is, in this writer's opinion at least, the more talented of his team, and it showed here, keeping pace with Sabin throughout, providing Sabin with a chance to play the smart, more technically knowledged veteran as opposed to being the most agile man in the match for once.
Like with any heel team, there were attempts at interference, but the Good Hands would get their comeuppance in the end. Skyler would attempt to hold Sabin in place for a dive, but Sabin escaped at the last moment, leading Hotch to crash into his partner like a missle. After that, Sabin dispatched of Hotch in short order with the CradleShock.
#1 - Six Man Tags, Everybody
You know it’s a go-home show when a six man tag main events the show. Ahead of their various clashes at No Surrender, the System took on Alex Shelley, Kushida and Kevin Knight, in what was a fun if formulaic bout. It started with the usual trolling from Shelley’s side, picking a limb on the opponents and relentlessly going for it, this time being the arm.
This wouldn’t last, of course, and the match would turn to the System dominating. It was all solid stuff, but stuff you’d expect. The best part of the match, the most noteworthy, was the finish. Moose would get the pin, hitting Kevin Knight with a spear that almost broke him in half.
