WWE SummerSlam 2024 Spoilers |
Singles Match for the WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa
Something is happening here. The Rock and/or Roman Reigns, Hikuleo (Talla Tonga), or any number of other people should make an appearance. But I don't think Solo Sikoa can truly walk away from this match with the WWE Championship. He's not ready for that kind of position. If this were Cody against Rock or Roman, then by all means, I'd assume the title would have a chance of changing hands. But I'm more so expecting Cody to retain and be beaten down afterward by the big surprise return, or for Roman to come out and go after Solo.
PREDICTION: Cody Rhodes retains.
Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. Gunther
It's interesting they went in this direction and sidelined Gunther for so long, just to set him up against a heel who leans toward tweener at times, rather than an outright babyface. That's such an odd way to put the title on Gunther. But I still imagine that's the setup. Bash in Berlin follows this, and unless they plan on having Gunther not win the title through some stall tactic shenanigans like a disqualification finish that would be really lame for SummerSlam, only to follow it up with a rematch in Berlin, then I'd bank on The Ring General winning the World Heavyweight Championship here. Priest has already started his face turn in a more rapid fashion, so something will go down where Gunther captures the title.
PREDICTION: Gunther wins the title.
Singles Match for the WWE Women's World Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
Dominik Mysterio is absolutely getting involved here. The only question is whether or not he intentionally screws over Rhea Ripley, or if he does so accidentally, and they stall that part of the story. I'm leaning more toward the latter. Of course, there is a chance Ripley just flat out wins the title back, but given Triple H's tendency to have people challenge for a title, fail, get a second chance, and then win, I think it's fairly certain Ripley is coming up short here, and will win the belt at Bash in Berlin or another show.
PREDICTION: Liv Morgan retains her title by crook, not by hook.
Singles Match for the WWE Women's Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax
I don't have much interest in this match. I've seen them wrestle before when Bayley was better in the ring. The only real hook for me is whether or not Tiffany Stratton cashes in. I think she does and walks away with the title.
PREDICTION: Tiffany Stratton wins the title after cashing in Money in the Bank.
Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship: Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight
Logan Paul has held the title long enough. LA Knight is in desperate need of actually capturing a championship in order to prevent him from falling down the pecking order. His popularity isn't at the peak it used to be, and this would do a great deal in rehabbing that and preventing it from losing steam, as he's still more than popular enough to justify holding the midcard title. I really hope they make the right decision here.
PREDICTION: LA Knight wins the title.
Singles Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker
It seems Bron Breakker is getting the "second chance" treatment booking we've been seeing a lot over the past few years. Essentially, the next champion fails their first attempt at the title, wins a redo, and then, captures the belt. I can't imagine there's any rationality behind putting Breakker in another match with Zayn, just to have him come up short. He arguably shouldn't have lost at Money in the Bank, even.
PREDICTION: Bron Breakker wins the title.
Singles Match: CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre (with special guest referee Seth Rollins)
History has shown that if there is a special guest referee at SummerSlam with issues between both people, there will be shenanigans where both will get in the face of the referee, and eventually, one wrong judgment call will lead to the finish. Look at Shawn Michaels nailing The Undertaker with a steel chair when he swings at Bret Hart for an example.
More often than not, when this happens, it is the heel who comes out on top. Considering there needs to be more of a rift between Punk and Rollins to build for the future, I think McIntyre is coming out on top of this.
PREDICTION: Drew McIntyre wins.
