WWE Backlash 2024 Spoilers |
Singles Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles
This is a great choice for Cody's first feud. It's a match we've wanted to see, they'll work well together, it puts Styles in a prominent position after sitting on the sidelines for so long, and Cody will retain. I'm fully on board.
PREDICTION: Cody Rhodes retains.
Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. Jey Uso
While Jey Uso has made massive progress in leveling up over the past year, I still don't think that this registers to most people as "a world title match", but more so, furthering the idea that this is very definitively on a lower tier than the WWE Championship. It's always going to be that way, if we're being honest. But at least it's still technically a world title and not a midcard title like the United States and Intercontinental Championships.
In any case, Priest isn't dropping the belt this quickly, and Jey being champion isn't an option that makes a lot of sense right now to me. So this is either as straightforward as Priest retaining, or there's something else afoot that I'm completely oblivious to, possibly with the WWE Draft factoring into things.
PREDICTION: Damian Priest retains.
Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship: A-Town Down Under (c) vs. The Street Profits
Is this official? It might not be. But I'll put it in here in the meantime. I don't think The Street Profits are winning the belts, as Grayson Waller and Austin Theory JUST won them at WrestleMania, but stranger things have happened. The 2024 WWE Draft influences a lot of things, so I won't have much of a clearer indication of that until we see what happens. But obviously, if The Pride gets sent over to Raw, we're not seeing them win these belts.
PREDICTION: A-Town Down Under retains.
WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Match: The Kabuki Warriors Asuka & Kairi Sane (c) vs. Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill
They didn't do it at WrestleMania, for whatever reason. But now that we're coming back around to this, I think it's as simple as putting those belts on Belair and Cargill. I can't imagine Damage CTRL will retain their titles.
PREDICTION: New champions are crowned. Bianca and Jade are definitely coming out on top.
Tag Team Match: Kevin Owens and Randy Orton vs. The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga
If this were a feud-ender, then by all means, RKO would win. But I think there's a necessary requirement that Tama Tonga shouldn't lose his first match, nor should Sikoa fall short again after asserting some authority over The Bloodline. Plus, there's a very good chance this features the debut of Jacob Fatu to help The Bloodline come out on top.
PREDICTION: The Bloodline wins.
Triple Threat Match for the WWE Women's Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton
On one hand, I'm glad this is a Triple Threat, rather than a Fatal 4-Way and already running through Nia Jax as a title contender. But on the other hand, Stratton is already out of the way? I was hoping she'd win either Queen of the Ring or Money in the Bank and be the one to dethrone Bayley. Now, I don't feel like that's all that likely to happen, which I'm disappointed about, and I wonder how WWE will keep her from going stale.
PREDICTION: Bayley retains.
