Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.

This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.

Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!

IMPACT WRESTLING: DECEMBER 7, 2023 RESULTS

#5 - E for Eh

This match could have, and should have, been a lot better than it was. In triple threat action, Eddie Edwards faced off against Latigo and Myzteziz Jr, and while this match attempted to follow a time tested structure, it never really felt like it got out of second or third gear.

Edwards and Latigo teamed up for much of the match, wearing down Myzteziz. This is all well and good, but it felt like this segment went on for far too long, and when the face luchador’s time to shine came, he was extremely clunky, constantly late for spots, and trying to get the crowd chanting for what felt like every single move. He would, however, pick up the win with a Shooting Star Press.

This match wasn’t awful. There are worse ways to spend 12 and a half minutes. You can even watch it for free on Impact’s YouTube right now. But it’s not must-see. Far from it.

#4 - Virtuosic Sloppiness

Continuing this theme of the AAA not holding up their end of this joint show, Deonna Purrazzo and Maravilla Vs Jordynne Grace and Sexy Star (a different Sexy Star, calm down) felt incredibly underwhelming. With Grace and Purrazzo’s chemistry and history, this should have been a great way to continue the animosity between the two while giving the AAA women the spotlight. That spotlight was wasted. Similar problems of clumsiness, slowness, and far too much pandering to the crowd plagued this match.

Again, not awful. But not one I’ll be coming back to. Grace and Star picked up the win after Grace hit the Juggernaut Driver (fka the Grace Driver.)

#3 - Can We Get a Thermometer Down In Hell Please?

A Tommy Dreamer match was actually one of the better worked matches on the card. No, don’t clean your glasses (actually, do. I have glasses myself. Those things are dirt magnets.) Dreamer teamed with Laredo Kidd against Black Taurus and Brian Myers this week, n a nicely paced tag match that felt like a great way to wake the crowd up again after the previous two disappointing matches. Kidd and Taurus did all the impressive spots in this match, as is often the case, while Dreamer and Myers played the more pantomime roles, but actually played them well.

Towards the end of the match, the rules seemed to just go out the window, with Dreamer blocking a dive with a cookie sheet to the face of Myers. In the ring, Kidd would finish off Taurus with a cookie sheet shot of his own, a Destroyer and a running Yoshi-Tonic to get the win.

#2 - Sabin’s First Shift

Starting off the night with a bang, Chris Sabin and Trinity-the Glow Guns, as commentary dubbed them-faced the AAA duo of Chik Tormenta and Dinamico. Trinity was the star of this match, making her entrance with a custom mask, and sporting matching gear with Sabin. The former Naomi looked right at home in the intergender environment, Sabin helping to fill the gaps with his usual smooth style. The AAA looked better than a lot of their peers on this show, a clumsy rana bump aside, with Dinamico in particular putting in a good shift of heel work, including a nasty-looking kick to the face of Trinity.

The faces would prevail in the end however, with Trinity nailing her Full Nelson Bomb on Tormenta for the win.

#1 - Sabin’s Second Shift

In his second match of the evening, Chris Sabin continued his streak of banger performances alongside Alex Shelley and Vikingo Vs Trey Miguel and Los Vipers in Trios action. I want you to stop and read that for a second. The MCMG. And El Hijo Del Vikingo. On the same team. Need I say more?

I don’t, but I will. It’d be an odd way to end the review otherwise. The Mega Champ of AAA looked right at home next to the Guns, and against the ring from Miguel (here’s hoping we get that singles match at some point.) Brought out to end the match, Vikingo would put Miguel away with his second rope Phoenix splash, but credit must also be given to Trey and Los Vipers, who bumped their asses off in this match, serving as great bases and the ying to the Viking Gun’s yang expertly. This is, alongside the mixed tag Sabin was in, is the must-see action of the week.

This joint show’s beginning and end were great. But unlike the popular sitcom of the same name, you can forget the middle.
