Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: OCTOBER 5, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - Ugh
This was not my favourite match of the evening. While Impact normally gets these multi-person tags right, this one just felt…lifeless. The concept was there, the plot was there, and everyone put the work in, it just didn’t click. But, it has major ramifications, so talk about it I shall.
A 10-person tag match, with heels and faces on each side, whichever team won this match would earn the right to compete in a 5-way next week to determine who gets to enter last in the Call Your Shot Battle Royal. As stated, the dynamics involved were interesting, such as rivals Jodie Threat and KiLynn King being on the same team, but the sum was not worthy of the parts here.
After a lot of chaos, the team of Jordynne Grace, Eric Young, Jake Something, Champagne Singh and Dirty Dango would win.
#4 - Designing A Jobber
In the big meaty men slapping meat portion of this weekend episode, Kon of the Design would face Josh Alexander in singles action, with Alex Shelley on commentary. A simple, fun, hossfest of a match, aided by Shelley being excellent on commentary, this match doesn’t have much to say about it, but it is very good.
After the bell, Shelley would confront Alexander about a mishap during the match, where, after saving Alexander, Shelley would be accidentally clocked by the Walking Weapon, who was aiming for Kon. This was repaid by Shelley hitting the ShellShock on Alexander to close the show.
#3 - You Try Thinking of A Pun For This
After spending the last week searching for a tag partner, with his usual compatriot Jason Hotch on paternity leave, John Skyler of the Good Hands would end up teaming with Jai Vidal against ABC in a Fan’s Revenge match this week. For those unfamiliar with the stipulation, this was its 4th iteration, and is built around having fans whip the wrestlers with leather straps if they exit the ring with both feet touching the floor.
Credit must be given to Skyler and Vidal, who absorbed 100% of the strap shots. The crowd was firmly behind ABC, and after an entertaining match, ABC would pick up the win with the One Two Sweet.
#2 - Crazzy Snow? Jon Steve?
It’s not often I find myself enjoying Tommy Dreamer segments these days. But this week was one of those times. Attempting to squash any beef with his soon to be challenged Crazzy Steve, Dreamer asked Steve to come to the ring, and detailed to the fans, whilst Steve began looking progressively more emotional and apologetic, the long-running friendship between the two men.
Dreamer and Steve would hug, but Steve literally stabbed Dreamer in the back with a fork, his weapon of choice in recent weeks. Steve would end the segment standing victorious, singing about the angel of death.
#1 - Different Kind of Bootlicker
Impact opened this week with the first singles match for Tasha Steelz in 6 months. The Greatest to Beat The Greatest went against the K in MK Ultra, one half of the Impact Women’s tag champs, Killer Kelly, accompanied by her partner Masha Slamovich.
Gods, what a match this was. Tasha Steelz looked like a million bucks here, fiery and aggressive from the start, not at all intimidated by Kelly, controlling the early portion of the match. Kelly sold her a** off for Tasha, and when the time came for her to take control, played the sadistic, sly opportunist role as well as she always does.
While it looked like Kelly would secure the win, interference from Deonna Purrazzo allowed Tasha to get the win with a Crucifix Bomb she calls the Blackout.
