Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.
This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: OCTOBER 19, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - He’s Got A Bad Leg, Baby!
Heath and Kenny King faced off in singles competition this week, furthering the feud between the two men that started when Heath prevented King from ending the career of Tommy Dreamer in their Digital Media Championship clash. This match followed a pretty standard formula, defiant babyface Heath tweaking his leg early on, but fighting through the pain.
After interference from King’s protege, Sheldon Jean, King would pick up the win by hitting the Royal Flush.
#4 - Forking Hell
Crazzy Steve continued his descent into…well, not madness, but further madness this week, facing former tag partner Black Taurus in a No DQ match. Filled with chair structures, forks and eye-gouging, this was the kind of fun you’d expect from a match like this.
Steve was the star of the show, alternating between sadistic glee at the pain he was inflicting on Taurus, and begging off, trying to appeal to the heart of his former partner when Taurus had the advantage. After nailing Belladonna’s Kiss, Steve got the pinfall win.
#3 - Alex Shelley, Petty Queen
Josh Alexander and Alex Shelley, opponents in the World Title Match at Bound For Glory, had a sequestered sit-down interview this week, moderated by Scott D’Amore. Champion and challenger wasted no time in getting jabs in at each other, insecure, paranoid Shelley against the proud, oblivious Alexander.
Shelley restated his grievances, that Alexander was acting like the face of the company when he was no longer the World champ, that Josh acted like he saved Impact, when Shelley built it. Josh would retort that he sees Shelley buckling under the pressure of being champion, that he’s worried for Shelley.
This would be enough to set Shelley off, and when Impact came back from a break, Shelley had found Alexander, resulting in a brawl between the two.
#2 - Gotta Love Those Tropes
Before facing off for the Knockouts World Championship this weekend at BFG, Trinity and Mickie James banded together to face Giselle Shaw and Savannah Evans in tag team action to close this week’s episode. If I’m perfectly honest, this match felt, in theory, formulaic and filler, but the talent involved were so good, it was still fun to watch.
Shaw and Evans continue to be the premier heels of the division, obnoxious bruisers who never lose their feeling of being a threat despite any losses they may take. Mickie is back on top form, and Trinity as champion continues to have such an exciting presence.
The faces would pick up the win, but as the show closed, tension was evident between the two, both having a hold of the Knockouts title, and both not willing to let go of it.
#1 - Good Lucha Things
Woo! This week’s episode of Impact started with a bang, with the former Kalisto, Samuray Del Sol, squaring off against Speedball Mike Bailey, ahead of Bailey’s match against Will Ospreay at Bound For Glory. I know it’s become a staple of these reviews in recent weeks for me to say, if you watch one match from this week’s episode, watch this one, but seriously, watch this one.
There was indeed plenty of good lucha things, the pace was consistently thrilling, and Speedball may have hit his best Tornado Kick ever in the closing stretches of this match. Speedball and Samuray looked amazing. If you’ve got 15 or so minutes to spare, you owe it to yourself to watch this match. Speedball Vs Ospreay is going to be an absolute banger.
