This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: OCTOBER 12, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - Loveable BS
Impact doesn’t always take itself seriously. And that’s a good thing. The company has long had a corny, uncool air to it, and then embracing it always proves entertaining. The latest proof for this? The 5 person match to determine entrants 1 and 20 of the Call Your Shot gauntlet.
The team of Champagne Singh, Dirty Dango, Eric Young, Jordynne Grace and Jake Something won a 10 person tag match this week to get this opportunity, with the stipulation that the winner of the match will enter the CYS Gauntlet last, and the one taking the pin entering first. A fun, chaotic match ended with Dirty Dango picking up the win after the former Vladimir Kozlov, yes, Vladimir Kozlov, laid out all opposition for Dango.
Wonderfully entertaining nonsense.
#4 - Send Death Dollz Puns
Courtney Rush of the Death Dollz faced Tasha Steelz this week in singles action, the two women accompanied by their tag partners Jessicka and Deonna Purrazzo respectively.
I’ll be honest, this wasn’t my favourite match. It feels like the former Rosemary deserves much better than to be treated like the jobber of the division, but this was important momentum for Steelz ahead of Bound For Glory, where she and Purrazzo will challenge MK Ultra for the Knockouts Tag Titles.
With an admittedly cool looking roll through into a cutter, Steelz won by pinfall.
#3 - Death Machine Winds Down
If the rumours are true, and Sami Callihan is indeed done with Impact Wrestling, he isn’t phoning it in on his way out. Kicking off this week’s episode, he and Rich Swann challenged the Rascalz for the Impact tag titles, the winners having to defend against former champs ABC at Bound For Glory. What. A. Match.
Swann and Callihan dominated the early going, until Wentz and Miguel weaselled their way into control, isolating Swann, doing a great job at playing really unlikeable but talented heels. As with almost all Rascalz matches, their win came via nefarious means, a low blow to Callihan while the ref was distracted paving the way for them to hit Hot Fire Flame and get the win.
#2 - Crazzy Good Vignette
Crazzy Steve delivered yet another solid promo in his latest, most interesting reincarnation this week, explaining his attack on Tommy Dreamer the week prior. He calls himself Tommy’s angel of death, and certifies that he and Tommy are not friends, asking Tommy how dare he try to dictate Steve’s actions.
The focus of the promo then turns to Black Taurus, Steve’s former tag partner. As if trying to gouge Taurus’ eyes out wasn’t confirmation enough, Steve clarifies their union is no more, because in his Feast or Fired briefcase is something bigger than he and Taurus ever were. He announces a No DQ match between he and Taurus for next week, promising his former friend a lesson in pain.
#1 - Killer Impact, Killer Match
Sometimes “grudge” matches don’t live up to the label. These men hate each other, the commentators say, they’re willing to do anything to each other. And then they have an incredibly mild match.
This is not one of those matches. Closing out a near-six month rivalry, and this week’s episode of Impact, this was a wonderfully paced, wonderfully brutal match. Fall 1 of this 2 out of 3 Falls Match was decided by pinfall, Eddie Edwards securing the fall with the Boston Knee Party. He’d dominate Kaz afterwards, chopping him so hard and so frequently that Kaz’s chest began to bleed. A hard fought Fall 2, to be decided by submission, went to Kaz via his Chickenwing submission, and Fall 3, the Last Man Standing match, ended with a Fade To Black, off the apron, through a table, keeping Eddie down.
If you watch one match from this week’s episode, make sure it’s this one. Kaz has still got it.
