Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: SEPTEMBER 28, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - Getting Crazzy in Memphis
In what was a fun plunderfest of a match, Tommy Dreamee and Heath took on Sheldon Jean and Kenny King in a Memphis Street Fight this week, in a match that was by no means technically perfect, but was quite fun to watch.
While Dreamer would get the win with a Dreamer Driver through a table, Heath was the MVP of this match. He did most of the heavy lifting for Dreamer, had gorgeous-looking strikes, and curried more favour with the fans than Dreamer did.
After the match, Dreamer would be attacked by Crazzy Steve who, while not cashing in his breifcase, did come out of this battle the better man, standing over Dreamer.
#4 - But What About The Rules?
Speedball Mike Bailey and Jonathan Gresham added another fun match to their catalogue this week, based around Gresham’s growing frustration with all the casual rule-breaking in Impact, and wanting a “pure” match.
Speedball would give him that, abiding by the rules, fighting valiantly, being his usual loveable self, but the respect was not, unfortunately, returned, as Gresham would, in contrast to his words, pick up a win by grabbing a handful of Speedball’s tights while pinning him.
#3 - Hail Sabin, Match 1
Alan Angels cashed in his Ultimate X win this week, one week after winning the match, to face Chris Sabin in Sabin’s first defense of the title. The match began with a nice, fast paced exchange, each man trying to one up each other, before settling into a more consistent rhythm.
Angels would target the arm of Sabin, while Sabin fought back, having to rely on offense not focused around his big weapons, like the Clothesline From Hell Michigan, the STF, and for a while, the CradleShock. Angels would come close, even landing the Halo Strike at one point for a close two, but after nailing Angels with a diving dropkick to the back of the head, Sabin was able to gut through the pain and hit the CradleShock to retain.
#2 - Hardcore Glow
While this week’s main event, Giselle Shaw Vs Trinity in a non-title singles match, was by no means a poor match, hard hitting, compelling, and with a fun ending where Jai Vidal’s interference inadvertently cost Shaw the match, I have a feeling people will be more interested in what happened after the match.
Vidal and Savannah Evans would beat down Trinity, until she was saved by the recently returned Mickie James, who, after saving the champ, challenged her to a match for the title James never lost, at Bound For Glory.
#1 - Best Job Interview Ever
For the first time ever in the history of Feast or Fired, the recipient of the pink slip had a chance to fight for their job. This week saw what was meant to be Yuya Uemura’s Goodbye Ceremony be interrupted by the Rascalz, who Yuya and Joe Hendry brawled with, before Santino Marella came out, making an impromptu tag match with the stipulation that, should JOYA win, Yuya would have his job back.
A very entertaining match followed, filled with plenty of close falls, fiery moments for Yuya, great support man work from Hendry, and tremendous heel work from both Rascalz. We will, sadly, be saying goodbye to Yuya after all, as the Rascalz picked up a win after their usual distraction and spray paint schtick.
