Posted by Cherry Turner Thursday, September 21, 2023

Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.

This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.

Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!

IMPACT WRESTLING: SEPTEMBER 21, 2023 RESULTS

#5 - No, You Cannot Get A JOYA

The results from last week’s Feast or Fired match were revealed this week, and for fans of a certain young lion, it isn’t good news. The World Title shot was held in Moose’s briefcase, the Digital Media title shot in Crazzy Steve’s case, and the Tag Title shot in the case belonging to Chris Bey. That unfortunately means, as per the rules of Feast or Fired, that the breifcase obtained by Yuya Uemura contained the pink slip. Uemura is fired from Impact Wrestling.

Later in the show, it was announced that next week will see the Goodbye Ceremony for Uemura.

#4 - Canada’s Most Wanted

It should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the Impact product that this week’s match between Kenny King and Eric Young didn’t last long. With King still sore over losing the Digital Media title recently to Tommy Dreamer, it didn’t take long for he and his protege Sheldon Jean to beat down Young, resulting in a disqualification. They would be chased off by Scott D’Amore, who made a special Team Canada entrance with Young, only for Shark Boy, the deputy DOA, to come out and restart the match as a tag match.

This too would break down quickly, Team Canada being attacked by the Design, but luckily, Shark Boy had a solution for that too. Restarting things again as an eight man tag, he revealed Team Canada’s partners to be America’s Most Wanted, Chris Harris and James Storm.

Harris looked great here, and it was incredibly nostalgic, in my opinion at least, to see Storm back in an Impact ring. After a succession of finishers, Young’s team picked up the win.

#3 - Maybe Leaving Dark Order Is A Good Idea

Another signature Impact match returned this week, with an Ultimate X match to determine a future contender to Chris Sabin’s X Division title. As one familiar with the match type might predict, this was an absolutely thrilling match. Incredibly risky spots, such as Speedball and Alan Angels brawling on of the metal structure, and a triple stereo moonsault off said structure, made this match as entertaining to watch as ever.

Despite hanging off the structure, being kicked a bunch, and appearing to be there just to fill out the numbers, it would be Angels who grabbed the X, and therefore, the title shot.

#2 - Walking Rascalz

Josh Alexander made his return to singles competition this week, in an attempt to settle beef with the Rascalz, represented by Trey Miguel. This was, in a way, what you might expect out of a modern Rascalz match. Loaded with interference and smooth, fast paced action, it would differ from the usual formula with Alexander securing the win with an especially brutal C4 Spike.

Alexander was assisted in his win by Alex Shelley, who, as he said on the mic after the match, was aiming not to hurt Alexander, but hurt the Rascalz. Shelley and Alexander would verbally spar, until the Walking Weapon made his challenge for the World Title at Bound for Glory.

#1 - So Much Nostalgia, So Much Goodness

This week’s Impact ended with a 10 Knockout Tag Team Match, filled with the past and present of the Knockouts division. Set up last week, on one side was Mickie James, Gail Kim, Awesome Kong, Jordynne Grace and Trinity. On the other, there was Angelina Love, Giselle Shaw, Savannah Evans, Deonna Purrazzo and Tasha Steelz.

A match filled with old rivalries, respect, and that oh so sweet nostalgia that doesn’t overstay its welcome, if yo if you’ve been a fan of Impact’s outstanding women’s division at any point, you’ll like this match. The heels really make the faces work for it, beating the stuffing out of Mickie James and Gail Kim, who both looked amazing. In the end, Awesome Kong, who looked every part the beast she did in her prime, secured the win with an Implant Buster.

It hasn’t been an easy ride, being an Impact fan. But it feels good to be here. Here’s to another 1000. Hard to Kill indeed.
