Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.
This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: AUGUST 24, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - Antidote Kid
Deaner got some much-needed time in the ring this week, facing off against fan favourite Laredo Kid in singles action. Deaner plied his usual schtick, but Kid was the truly the MVP of the match, making his own offense as well as Deaner’s look as crisp and as devastating as possible.
Kid would try to outsmart the Design, taking out Kon with a dive when it looked like Kid was going to finish off Deaner, but once Kid went for the killshot, he rolled right into Deaner’s Antidote DDT, losing the match via pinfall.
After the match, Deaner would cut an unhinged promo claiming he was in control now, not Eric Young, and challenged Young to a No DQ match at Emergence.
#4 - Craziest Steve
In what is more than likely the last of these sit down segments with Tom Phillips, Crazzy Steve went off the deep end this week. Steve seems to have taken on a rather twisted version of the “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” philosophy, vowing to be the plague itself, if he cannot be the antidote against evil.
Tom Hannifan would try to placate Steve, but an increasingly erratic Steve would start trashing the set, even drooling what appeared to be blood over a security guard as he screamed into the camera. Steve doesn’t seem to be handling isolation well.
#3 - Dont’t Threaten Me With A Good Match
Knockouts champion Trinity would open this week’s episode of Impact, facing the hard hitting, always eager Jody Threat in non-title action. Clearly placed where it was on the card to hype the fans up at the start of the show, this match more than delivered.
Threat and Trinity are perhaps the two most high energy Knockouts on the roster, and they worked a suitably paced match, with stiff shot after stiff shot, feet almost always on the gas. While Threat did indeed prove a threat to Trinity, the champ would prevail, once again winning with her Bubba Bomb-esque manoeuvre.
#2 - Sabin Del Sol
In another example of thrilling singles action from this week, Chris Sabin would take on the debating Samuray Del Sol in a fast-paced, intricate match. The former Kalisto more than earned his keep in the his first match on Impact TV, as agile and smooth as ever, with arguably a cooler mask than he ever had in WWE to boot. Sabin on the other hand was, as always, the string that pieced the match together, a great base and foil to Del Sol.
Sabin would ultimately pick up the win with the CradleShock, but that would not be the end of his night.
#1 - Shellshocked (No, Not Ryback)
In a preview of the eight man tag at Emergence, Alex Shelley defend his Impact World Championship this week, against education plant enthusiast Brian Myers. Carrying the stipulation that all other participants of the right man tag be banned from ringside, this was ultimately a clash of philosophies and styles.
Myers proves once more why he’s one of the most underrated heels around, impressively unimpressive in all the right ways, a threat but a cowardly one, stiff but arrogant, etc. Shelley meanwhile has really settled into his role as the self described conduit champion, the agile, cunning veteran, the man with his fingers in so many iconic pies across wrestling.
Shelley would eventually win with the Border City Stretch, but would be jumped after the bell by Myers, Moose and Bully Ray. Shelley would be saved by Josh Alexander and Kushida, but a quick cut backstage revealed that Sabin had been attacked by rival Lio Rush, potentially injured by the Bad Child once more.
