Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: AUGUST 17, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - Crazy Vulnerable
Just go watch the Crazy Steve sit-down interview. I said last week it seemed promising, and this week more than delivered. Heartbreaking stuff. Words can’t really do it justice. Crazy Steve is a very strong man.
#4 - God’ll Cut You Down (With a Chair)
Eric Young faced former disciple Kon this week in singles action, as part of the ongoing effort by the Design, or rather, Deaner, to finish what he started and end Eric Young. Deaner interfered throughout the match, but it wasn’t like his interference was much needed, as although EY fought like the craft veteran he is, Kon dominated large portions of the match.
When the match seemed be swinging in Young’s favour, Deaner interfered with a chair, giving Young the DQ win. Young win the battle in name but not spirit however, as the Design would beat Young down once more after the bell.
#3 - You Must Be This Tall
3 is a magic number, and this week saw Killer Kelly Vs Savannah Evans Vs Jessicka in a preview of the women’s tag titles match at Emergence. The match was, to start, a battle of the behemoths, Evans and Jessicka ignoring Kelly, but as always, Kelly found a way to make herself unignorable.
This was fun, fast-paced, and an easy watch. Kelly won after stealing the pin from Savannah.
#2 - Face the King
Deonna Purazzo got a jobber’s entrance for her match with KiLynn King this week, but she was anyrhinfbhur the jobber of this match. Built around showcasing the Virtuosa as a skilled babyface, this was a great opener to the show.
King continues to play the wicked bruiser well, and was a great base for Purrazzo here. She would come undone however, forced to submit to the Venus Di Milo.
#1 - This Is For You Kushida
Set up in a backstage segment earlier in the night, Kevin Knight Vs Moose was, in this writer’s opinion, one of the most fun matches of the week, finding its charm in its simplicity. The match followed a pretty simple formula, the good old David Vs Goliath, but it was executed wonderfully.
Moose as the insecure yet deadly competitor continues to work every time, and Knight’s resilience face schtick, paired with his athleticism, makes him one of the more promising young talents to come through Impact in a while. The outcome of this match was never really in doubt, Moose picking up the win with his Spear, but it is nonetheless well worth the watch.
