Points of Impact Wrestling: July 6, 2023 Results and Biggest Moments

Posted by Cherry Turner Saturday, July 8, 2023

Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.

This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.

Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!

IMPACT WRESTLING: JULY 6, 2023 RESULTS

#5 - How Do You Say Champion In Japanese?

In what was this writer's favourite backstage segment from this week's Impact, Kenny King and Sheldon Jean would threaten Joe Hendry, angry with him for making King's life hell with the Stripper Kenny music video. King and Jean pointed out that they could beat Hendry up right now, as he has no allies, Hendry summoned Yuya Uemura, who got his own version of the Hendry "Say His Name" sting, before backing Hendry up.

It wasn't a long segment, but it made this writer laugh. Everyone involved made this work. Credit to Jean and Uemura especially.

#4 - Killer Kenny

To start this week's episode of Impact, Frankie Kazarian faced fellow Killer Kowalski trainee and former friend, Eddie Edwards, accompanied to the ring by Alisha. This was physical right from the start, the two men locking up as soon as the bell rang. With an emphasis on chops and big moves throughout the match, the theme of this being extremely personal was conveyed well, but ultimately, this match belongs to Alisha.

Running interference constantly throughout, Alisha hindered Kaz at every turn, the highlight of which being a Tornado DDT from the apron to the floor. When the referee went down, and Kaz would try to put Edwards away, Alisha used Kenny the Kendo Stick to assist Eddie, who got the win with a Boston Knee Party.

What will likely make more headlines than this match however is the match set up for Slammiversary. An irate Kaz would challenge Eddie to a rubber match backstage, and promised to have his wife, and notable Impact alumni, Traci Brooks in his corner.

#3 - Swanns Vs Everything

The team of Sami Callihan and Rich Swann had a brief but entertaining match this week, against the team of Champagne Singh and Shera. Essentially a squash match, this writer mentions the match here because a) Swann and Callihan are always fun to watch, and b) their spinning back kick/Cactus Special 97 finish might be my new favourite tag finisher. What a move.

#2 - Another Week, Another Tag Match Part 3

That title can, I realise, make it seem like I don't enjoy the main event tag matches Impact likes to utilise. That couldn't be further from the truth. More often than not, I find these matches to be fun, this week being no exception, as the Motor City Machine Guns took on the team of Nick Aldis and Lio Rush.

Rush and Aldis are a tag team made in heaven. The subdued, character based work of Aldis gives Rush all the time and spotlight he needs to dazzle the crowd, and Aldis is particularly useful for heat segments and interjections. Pair this kind of chemistry and synergy with the usual excellence of the MCMG, you get an excellent tag match, one that came to an end when a low blow would allow Rush to hit a Tornado Enziguri and the Final Hour to get the pinfall win.

#1 - Fallen Angel (Not Christopher Daniels)

The tension in the Design came to a boiling point this we will, as Angels took on Jonathan Gresham in singles action in what was, in this writer's opinion, the most engaging match of the week.

Though he didn't get the chance to showcase it often in AEW, or indeed so far in Impact, Alan Angels is one of the best currently active in the ring once the pace picks up. He and Gresham had a thrilling back and forth this week, the pace only slowing when Deaner had some criticism or orders to bark at Angels.

After Gresham got the win with the Octopus, he offered a handshake to Angels, who wanted to accept said handshake, but was instructed not to by Deaner. After telling us leader "I don't need you anymore," Angels shook Gresham's hand, seemingly leaving the Design.
