This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: JULY 20, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - D’Amore Death Machine
Opening Impact this week was Impact authority figure Scott D’Amore, cutting a celebratory promo recapping the events of Slammiversary. He wouldn’t have long to speak to the crowd, as he was interrupted by the Good Hands, who accused him of ducking the receipt he had coming from these Good Hands.
D’Amore would give the Good Hands the fight they wanted, but in his place, Sami Callihan and Rich Swann took the fight to the Good Hands. After a brief, energetic match, Swann and Callihan won with a double crucifix style manoeuvre.
#4 - Rushlemania Walks Before It Runs
Courtney Rush took on Savannah Evans in singles action this week, continuing the feud between the Death Dollz and Giselle Shaw’s entourage. Savannah dominated most of the match, Rush fighting from underneath, the loveable, scrappy babyface. The match would, of course, take a turn.
Shaw and Jai Vidal interfered multiple times on behalf of Evans, but they tempted fate one time too many. After Vidal interfered once more, recent Death Dollz ally Jody Threat would walk out, carrying Vidal to the back. Distracted by this, Evans turned right around into a spear from Rush, allowing Rush to get the pinfall win.
#3 - Subculture of Rascalz
After losing their tag titles at Slammiversary because of Rascalz interference, ABC would get their rematch against Subculture this week, in what was an entertaining slow burner of a match. The two teams proved each other’s equal, having a back and forth affair, before, as was the theme of tonight, interference occurred.
After a backstage brawl with ABC earlier in the night, the Rascalz were banned from ringside, being kicked out of the arena. Like a stoner reincarnation of the Shield, this wouldn’t stop them, as they interfered in the match. Trey took out Ace Austin at ringside, and, after an exchange of roll-ups, Mark Andrews managed to keep Bey down for the 3, allowing Subculture to retain their tag titles.
#2 - Something Special
By far the most thrilling match of this week was the AXS TV return of Jake Something, as he took on New Japan young talent Kevin Knight in singles action. Having returned at Slammiversary in the Ultimate X match, Something looks like a new man compared to his last Impact appearance, bigger, faster and more charismatic than ever.
Knight for his part was as fun as ever, athletic, resilient, by no means giving Something an easy match. On this occasion however, Something was an unstoppable force, and a near immovable object all in. The match would end with Something hitting his Boss Man Slam, called Into the Void, to secure the win.
#1 - Closing Cacophony
I’ve done this joke a few times in these Impact reviews, but once more, it feels appropriate, so once more I shall use it.
Buckle up.
After four months away, Josh Alexander made his return to Impact on AXS TV. After having resurfaced at Slammiversary, Alexander cut a promo about how hard he worked to get back here, and what his intentions are for the future. He declares that he’ll be going after the World title once more, and after that, out came the World champion, Alex Shelley. Shelley would tell Alexander to wake up from the dream he’s living in, before being interrupted by Lio Rush.
Rush, who dethroned Chris Sabin for the X Division title in short order at Slammiversary, teased cashing in Option C, meaning trading the X Division title for a shot at the World title, before he was interrupted by the man who won the Ultimate X match at Slammiversary, and therefore a shot at Rush, Kushida. Kushida wouldn’t have much time to talk, before he was interrupted by Bully Ray.
Ray would provide a brief distraction, so Brian Myers and Moose could slip in from behind, attacking the faces in the ring. The heels would offer Rush a chance to get in on the beatdown, but Rush would decline, walking up the ramp as the episode ended.
