Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.
This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: JUNE 22, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - OVT: Ohio Versus Trees
Kicking off this review, and the episode of Impact, was a six man tag between the recently reunited OVE, and one of the more entertaining heel groups in Impact currently, the Learning Tree (Brian Myers and the Good Hands.)
Quite an entertaining back and forth to start the show, the match was paced and worked extremely well, with the finish coming when a distraction from another ally of Brian Myers, Moose, kept Sami Callihan and Madman Fulton occupied long enough for Myers to hit Jake Crist with the Roster Cut to pick up the win.
After the match, a backstage segment would see Callihan and Rich Swann argue over Swann’s continued lack of support, but reconcile with a pledge from Swann to have Callihan’s back going forward.
#4 - King of the Desk
Digital Media Champion Joe Hendry defended his title in the penultimate match of this week’s episode of Impact against rising star and fan favourite, Yuya Uemura. The Young Lion of Impact and the Prestigious One’s match didn’t necessarily start smoothly however, as Kenny King, accompanied as always by Sheldon Jean, would walk out and join commentary.
King spent the match berating Hendry, while Hendry and Uemura had a spirited, tightly worked match that ended with Hendry countering an attempted crossbody from Uemura into the Standing Ovation for the win.
#3 - Someone Please Send Me Design Puns
The tension within the Design continues to find its way to the surface, despite the group’s best attempts to hide it. Angels and Kon did battle this week against the reunited team of Jonathan Gresham and Speedball Mike Bailey, in what was a surprisingly entertaining match.
This writer must admit, I have never put much stock in Kon’s in-ring abilities, but the big man of the Design continues to show the same kind of flashes of brilliance he once did down in NXT, and Angels is, as always, a perfect fire cracker-esque jackal for the group. Pair that with two of the best wrestlers in the world in Gresham and Speedball, and you have a recipe for a good match.
The match would end when, after Deaner distracted Angels while Angels was climbing the ropes, the two starting to bicker, Speedball was able to recover and roll out of the way of Angels’s frog splash, hitting his signature Tornado Kick and Ultima Weapon to pick up the win.
#2 - Wilde Killers
Killer Kelly faced the Coven’s Taylor Wilde this week in singles action, two weeks after Kelly’s brutal Dog Collar match against Masha Slamovich at Against All Odds.
In the only Knockouts match of the evening, Wilde and Kelly had…well, a wild match, going back and forth, different types of intensity clashing until Kelly was able to secure the win with a roll-up.
After the bell, the Coven would jump Kelly, only to be chased off by potential Kelly ally, a chain-wielding Slamovich.
#1 - Lored Stiff
In this writer’s personal favourite segment from this week’s Impact, the recently returned Neveah caught sight of who she believed to be her fellow former Killer Death Machine, Havok, backstage. It was, of course, Jessicka (and Courtney Rush) who Neveah ended up meeting instead, and after the initial confusion was cleared up, Neveah would offer to explain everything to the Death Dollz, which, after a comedic huddle discussing it, was an offer the Death Dollz eagerly accepted.
