The WWE Raw Women's Championship has changed hands as Asuka defeated Bianca Belair to win the title at Night of Champions on May 27, 2023.
My immediate reaction: Well hey, I sure got this wrong, didn't I? I just assumed this was 100% Bianca Belair retaining. So....they just kept the belt on Bianca at WrestleMania 39 because they wanted her to have the longest title reign, right? That's why they completely ignored Asuka for the next month, too, to kill time until Backlash was over and she passed by that number, only to come back around and go "....but Asuka in a rematch!" Poor execution in doing that. They could have done better. But I guarantee now that we have the hindsight that that's what they did, and they just figured "Meh, we'll get around to giving to Asuka. It doesn't matter if it takes a few months. They'll forget the bad stuff and just be excited about a title change eventually." Now, can we get a real Asuka title reign? Or are we just going to get Asuka holding that belt while the focus is on someone else, as per usual, until Charlotte Flair beats her, again?
Since this happened, be sure to check out the updated full list of title changes for this year and the list of current champions and my predictions for who will take the belts away from them.
