Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.
This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: MAY 4, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - Major Threat, Major Win
The newly heel Alisha Edwards and the recently debuted Jody Threat had the first of what will likely be multiple matches in their feud this week, having spent the last few weeks at odds. While this match won't be winning any match of the year awards, it more than served its function.
The crowd was firmly behind Jody, cheering on her offense, booing Alisha whenever she played the evasive heel. Any Threat fans will go home happy however, as Jody secured her first major win in Impact after nailing Alisha with the F416.
#4 - (Open-Ended) Deal With the Devil
Continuing on from last week's segment which saw Crazzy Steve advise Rosemary to contact James Mitchell, the leader of the Hivelings did just that this week, seeking the Sinister Minister's assistance with getting to the Undead Realm.
Mitchell confirmed that it wasn't the Coven blocking the Death Dollz from the Undead Realm, and offered to take Rosemary, but wouldn't reveal the price for such a favour. With Rosemary trying to keep Jessicka away from the Undead Realm, and Mitchell essentially saying it's now or never, Rosemary would agree, entering into an open-ended deal with the man in the red suit, traveling to the Undead Realm, leaving Jessicka behind.
#3 - Most Professional Wrestling Gods
A surprisingly fun tag match would open Impact this week, seeing the team of Bhupinder Gujjar and Yuya Uemura taking on Moose and Brian Myers. This didn't stray too far from your standard faces Vs heels tag match formula, but the basics can be great when executed well, which they were here.
Gujjar is becoming more and more likeable and confident as time goes by, and Uemura is an excellent modern embodiment of fighting spirit, and of a fiery, resilient babyface. Moose continues to be excellent in his role, and Brian Myers is reliable as ever. Put all of these factors together, you have a fun opener.
#2 - Gresham and Bailey IV: A New Hope
The fourth installment in the singles series between Jonathan Gresham and Mike Bailey brought with it a new angle this week. Gresham acted nonchalant throughout the match, though whether that was through intentional disrespect for Speedball, or just plain boredom was left ambiguous for much of the match.
The action itself was thrilling as always, a great back and forth affair that saw Speedball target the arm of Gresham throughout. In the end however, it would be Gresham pulling ahead in the series, earning the submission victory with the Octopus hold,
#1 - GLOW (But in Impact)
To close the show, and this recap, the newly debuted Trinity, f.k.a. WWE's Naomi would cut a promo in front of an incredibly energetic crowd. Trinity declared her intention to win the Knockouts Championship, and to make a change in Impact, as well as acknowledging past great Knockouts, before she was interrupted not once by twice.
First, Knockouts champion Deonna's Purrazzo would make an appearance, staking claim to her territory and referencing Trinity's WWE walkout, and then, former champ Jordynne Grace would appear, saying if Trinity wants a title match, she should take it up with Grace, treating it like a forgone conclusion that she will beat Purrazzo at Under Siege in 3 weeks.
Trinity would close by saying that whoever wins at Under Siege, she'll be waiting for. Be it Grace if Purrazzo who wins at Under Siege, the Knockouts division has certainly received a boost with Trinity's presence.
