Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.
This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: MAY 25, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - Are You Smarter Than A 36-Year-Old?
Following last week’s bout that saw Ace Austin cheated of a win by Jason Hotch, their respective tag partners Chris Bey and John Skyler did battle this week. The veteran Skyler very capably played the grounded, crafty veteran to Bey’s high flying young star, but in the end, Bey would prove himself smarter than most babyfaces, taking out Hotch at ringside before securing the win with the Art of Finesse.
See how easy it is, for a babyface not to be a complete idiot?
#4 - The Design of a Preview
Rich Swann took on Angels this week, in a preview of the six man tag set for Under Siege, where the Design are set to face Callihan, Swann and a partner of their choosing.
This was one of the more enjoyable matches on this week’s card. Angels continues to be an underrated heel and worker in general, and Rich Swann never fails to get the crowd going, or to pull off ridiculous feats of athleticism.
Swann would pick up the win, but the Design got the last laugh of this battle, beating down both Swann and Callihan after the bell.
#3 - Dalton Castle and The Girls
I’ll be honest, there isn’t much to say about Alisha Vs Jordynne Grace. As one might predict, it was a squash match to give Grace momentum going into Under Siege, Grace winning handily with the Grace Driver.
I mention it here because, after going back and rewatching the match for reviewing purposes, I realised Grace hit a Bang-A-Rang on Alisha. That bit of variety made this squash a lot more palatable to this writer.
#2 - Rushing to the Rescue
Jessicka faced Taylor Wilde in a short match this week, as part of the ongoing feud between the Death Dollz and the Coven over the Knockouts Tag Team Championships. Wilde picked up the win over a distracted Jessicka, who was worried about the hour glass Rosemary gave her weeks earlier running out, Rosemary having promised to be back by then.
The Demon Assassin kept to her word. Kind of.
Rosemary evidently ran into some trouble in the Undead Realm as, after the bell and during a Coven beatdown, we were shown, on the main tron, the hour glass running out. And stepping out of the Undead Realm was not Rosemary, but the original meatsuit, Courtney Rush.
The lady Rosemary possessed 7 years ago ran to Jessicka’s rescue, and, after saving Jessicka, agreed to join the Death Dollz while Rosemary sorts her business in the Undead Realm.
#1 - I’m Not Typing that Nine Time Joke Again
To open this week’s Impact, in a warmup for his X Division Championship match at Under Siege, Chris Sabin battled fellow fan fan favourite Speedball Mike Bailey in singles action. To say this was the best match from this week’s episode is an understatement. Both men fought valiantly, but respectfully, and were given the time to craft something special.
Sabin was, at points, ruthless, such as when he had Speedball in a Tree of Woe type position, but this came across as more Sabin being ready for the antics of Trey Miguel more than heelish actions. Garnering Fight Forever chants, and deservedly so, Sabin would eventually pick up the win with a Cradle Shock.
