WWE WrestleMania XL Results 2024 |
NIGHT 1:
Women's World Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Becky Lynch
RESULT: Rhea Ripley retained the title by pinfall
THOUGHTS: Very glad Ripley retained. As much as I like Becky, I think this was the right call, and the right judgment for what should open (but we'll see about that)
Six-Pack Challenge Ladder Match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship: The Judgment Day (c) vs. Awesome Truth vs. DIY vs. The New Day vs. New Catch Republic vs. Austin Theory & Grayson Waller
RESULT: A-Town Down Under (SmackDown) and Awesome Truth (Raw) won the tag titles.
THOUGHTS: I'm glad with the result, I'm glad with the titles being split, and I enjoyed the match. Thumbs up across the board.
Andrade & Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio & Santos Escobar
RESULT: Andrade and Rey Mysterio won by pinfall (Mysterio pinned Escobar) with some help from Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson.
THOUGHTS: The NFL bit does nothing for me, but whatever. I'm surprised they didn't go with the Carlito turn. Actually, where was Dragon Lee? He wasn't even ringside with like a fake sling on or something? That's weird.
Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso
RESULT: Jey Uso won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: If I'm 100% honest, this was underwhelming from what I was hoping it would be. It was fine, but I thought it would be great.
Six-Woman Tag Team Match: Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill & Naomi vs. Damage CTRL (Asuka, Dakota Kai & Kairi Sane)
RESULT: Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Naomi won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Meh. Nobody's going to remember this filler match. They'll just remember that it happened in general.
Intercontinental Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn
RESULT: Sami Zayn won the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Solid match, but I'm still disappointed something else didn't happen with Gunther's title reign and I'll maintain my opinion that this won't end up doing as much for Zayn as a lot of people think it will be. We'll have to find out about that in the future.
Roman Reigns and The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins
RESULT: The Rock and Roman Reigns won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: It went long, and there were some moments that could have been trimmed to make this flow better, but I think they did an overall great job for a precursor to the main event. Let's see if tomorrow completes the package and it all ends up going down the way it should.
NIGHT 2:
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
RESULT: Drew McIntyre won the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Solid enough opener for me.
After the match, McIntyre was standing on the commentary table, gloating to CM Punk, who tripped him, kicked him a few times, and opened up an opportunity for Damian Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank contract!!!
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Damian Priest
RESULT: Damian Priest won the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Looooved this!
Snoop Dogg is out for commentary and Bubba Ray Dudley is the special guest referee for this Philadelphia Street Fight.
Philadelphia Street Fight Six-Man Tag Team Match: The Pride's
Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez
Ford) vs. Final Testament's Karrion Kross & AOP (Akam & Rezar)
RESULT: The Pride was victorious as Bobby Lashley pinned Karrion Kross.
THOUGHTS: Having Snoop Dogg on commentary was a bit distracting (but still funny), having Bubba Ray Dudley involved in this as special guest referee was fun. This was a messy match that I can understand if people hated, especially when it comes to what B-Fab and Scarlett were doing, but I still enjoyed this overall.
AJ Styles vs. LA Knight
RESULT: LA Knight won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: The crowd was busy chanting that they couldn't see because of the spotlights blinding them. That killed a lot of the buzz from the audience. The match itself, from my POV watching at home (though I'm still mad I didn't get tickets) was that they weren't really missing much. This was just a generic match; nothing to write home about.
Triple Threat Match for the United States Championship: Logan Paul (c) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Randy Orton
RESULT: Logan Paul won by pinfall on Owens to retain the title.THOUGHTS: Best match of the night, so far. This was a lot of fun.
WWE Women's Championship Match: Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bayley
RESULT: Bayley won the title by pinfallTHOUGHTS: I really wish I liked this better, but I thought it was about a 6/10. Obviously, some will take that as me saying it was awful, which it wasn't (hence a 6/10 and not, you know, lower than a 5). But it just felt like it was very by the books and I wasn't super invested in Bayley winning the title in the first place anyway. This storyline wasn't hooking me over the past few months. I'm glad Bayley won, though, at least.
Bloodline Rules Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
RESULT: Cody Rhodes won the title by pinfall!!!!
THOUGHTS: I cannot say a more enthusiastic YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Oh man. I loved this. I feel like the bit with The Undertaker was meant for Stone Cold Steve Austin, so I'm curious why that was the finale, but this was so fucking goooooood.
