Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of Impact Wrestling.
This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.
Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!
IMPACT WRESTLING: APRIL 28, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - Something Old, Something New
To start this week's episode of Impact, Masha Slamovich and Jordynne Grace renewed their rivalry in an excellent, physical match. Back and forth from the start, with plenty of great spots, such as the Pumphandle Regalplex Slamovich managed to pull off, there was nary a dull moment here.
Grace would pick up the win against Slamovich once more, the two women exchanging pins, back and forth, until Grace managed to stay on top for the 3.
#4 - Damage CTRL (but good)
In the first of what seems to be multiple interview segments we can expect to see over the next few weeks, Frankie Kazarian this week gave a fascinating insight as to how Impact's history is viewed internally, in kayfabe. Blurring the lines between a work and a shoot, Kaz mentioned the part timer culture in Impact in the late 2000s and early 2010s, the tumultuous management situation, and why he left Impact in 2014.
Fascinating, and excellently edited and put together. More of this please.
#3 - To Bribe a Monster?
As part of the build to PCO Vs Steve Maclin, Maclin would call PCO out in a promo this week, only for PCO to be attacked on the ramp by Shera and Champagne Singh. This went on until Santino Marella interrupted, and made the match of Singh Vs PCO, with Shera banned from ringside, despite pocketing Singh's bribe.
The match was, admittedly, quite fun if you like PCO's variety of match. He took bumps no man his age should take, made the Frankenstein schtick work, and Singh got a good showcase as a cocky, entitled heel, who even tried to bribe PCO during the match. Not match of the year, but entertaining nonetheless.
#2 - Easy As ABC
An interesting tag matchup this week saw a rage-driven, vengeance hungry Design take on the Impact tag champs, Ace Austin and Chris Bey in non title action. Though ABC got a flurry in at the start, this match was almost all Design, with Angels and Kon dishing out the pain to ABC that they so desperately wanted to dish out to Sami Callihan.
After Deaner interfered, halting an ABC comeback, the Death Machine would make himself known, as Callihan attacked Deaner, and provided the distraction needed for ABC to pick up the win. The Callihan/Design feud is far from over. (In a storyline sense. The crowd is responding to it well.)
#1 - Queen Vs Witch
Gods, it feels good to see women main event a promotions's flagship show, doesn't it? The closing bout of this week's episode of Impact saw Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo defend her championship against one half of the Knockouts Tag Team Champions, Taylor Wilde. To sum it as neatly as one can, these women didn't disappoint.
Wilde's turn to witchy endeavours has done wonders for her presence, both in and out of the ring, and she played perfectly off of the Bret Hart-esque, technically sound, resilient babyface niche Purrazzo has been carving for herself as of late. Submission fans will rejoice at the finish, as Purrazzo locked in the Venus Di Milo, the double Fujiawara Armbar, to pick up the win.
Purrazzo would be jumped by Wilde and KiLynn King after the bell, only to be saved by her longtime rival Jordynne Grace. Grace and Purrazzo had a tense stand-off before Grace walked away, some respect perhaps having been earnt between the two competitors as this week's Impact came to a close.
