IMPACT WRESTLING: MARCH 16, 2023 RESULTS
#5 - You Can’t Outrun the Past
Much like last week, segments throughout tonight’s show focused on PCO, and his continuous want for revenge against Eddie Edwards. After being hit with a car in the desert last week, PCO makes the trek back into Vegas, shouting Eddie’s name like the French Canadian Frankenstein he was, leading to a showdown later in the show.
As Eddie was cutting a promo about how he’s finally put the past behind him, PCO would interrupt. Before PCO could make it down the ramp however, he was attacked by fellow former Honor No More member Kenny King, who assisted Edwards in beating down PCO.
It wasn’t entirely smooth sailing for the pair, with PCO fighting back several times, but after several brutal shots with Kenny the Kendo Stick, Edwards and King stood tall.
#4 - Decay’s Rough Night, Part 1
In the opening bout of this week’s episode, Speedball Mike Bailey and Jonathan Gresham faced Crazzy Steve and Black Taurus in tag team action, continuing the story of Gresham and Bailey’s friendly rivalry and respect for one another.
This match was definitely the right choice to start the show, a fun, fast-paced encounter that made everyone look good, and got the crowd going. Gresham and Bailey worked well together, Steve was entertaining as always, and Taurus‘s offense looked as quick and as devastating as ever. All you could ask for from an opening match.
#3 - Impact being Impact
In what might be the most entertaining segment of the night in terms of laughs and feel-good moments, Santino Marella as reunited with…
…Vladimir Kozlov. Yes, you read that right. The former WWE competitor and current Russian commentator for Impact made a cameo appearance on this week’s episode, reuniting with Santino in a backstage segment. After a quick joke about how they couldn’t “say his name” due to WWE still having the copyright, none other than Joe Hendry would appear.
In a twist on a wrestling trope, Hendry invoked someone else’s rematch clause. Having won the Digital Media Championship from Brian Myers months ago, and still having trouble with Myers recently, Hendry invoked his opponent’s rematch clause so he could get some revenge on Myers. Santino agreed, and the match was made official for Sacrifice.
#2 - Main Event Madness
A six man tag between Bullet Club’s Ace Austin, Chris Bey and KENTA and Rich Swann, Frankie Kazarian, and Josh Alexander served as this week’s main event, and if you know anything about the names involved, I think you’ll know what this writer is about to say.
This was an incredibly paced match, exciting as always, and with a surprising finish. It looked like Alexander’s team would pick up the win, with Alexander preparing to hit the C4 Spike, but his Rebellion opponent Steve Maclin, having picked up a win over Heath earlier in the night, distracted Alexander, standing on the ramp and watching the match.
This lapse in focus would allow Bullet Club to regain control, and surprisingly, pick up the win. With another six man tag in Team Alexander’s future at Sacrifice, against Time Machine, momentum is not on their side.
#1 - Decay’s Rough Night, Part 2
Anyone paying attention to the dirt sheets, or to this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, could probably have predicted the outcome of this week’s Knockouts Championship match. After setting up the match last week, the Death Dollz, this week represented by Rosemary and Taya Valkyrie, defended their titles against the newly formed Coven of Taylor Wilde and KiLynn King.
Death Dollz were originally due to be represented by Rosemary and Jessicka, but this was changed by Valkyrie, who expressed concerns to Rosemary that should Jessicka come too close to Wilde and her magic, Havok would re-emerge. Rosemary laughed these concerns off, but the change in personnel went ahead.
After a great back and forth affair, built around King as the power of the match, Valkyrie would put over King on her way out of the company, being pinned after King hit the Excalibuster on her to win the match, and the Knockouts tag titles.
What the future holds for Rosemary, Jessicka, and the Knockouts tag titles remains uncertain, but this was a more than worthy send-off for Valkyrie. Here’s hoping AEW uses her well.
