Call the Spot on the Card #29: WWE Elimination Chamber 2023 Participants

Posted by Anthony Mango Friday, February 10, 2023

Welcome to another edition of CALL THE SPOT ON THE CARD, where we present a list of wrestlers and you must choose what place on the WWE Roster Hierarchy they should be put in: 1) Main Event, 2) Upper Midcard, 3) Midcard, 4) Jobber, or 5) Released (or any alternative extra categories that may be added for bigger lists).

The rules are that each spot must be filled and only one person can be in each spot, so no ties can happen, nor can anyone opt out. No matter how difficult it might be, you have to pick.

This edition will focus on the Superstars competing in the WWE Elimination Chamber 2023 cage matches.

UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH

Austin Theory vs. Bronson Reed vs. Damian Priest vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Montez Ford vs. Seth Rollins

6) RELEASED = Bronson Reed

There are typically three reasons to put someone in this spot. Either you don't like them and want to see them gone, you DO like them and want them to make a bigger splash elsewhere, or you think they're just the lowest on this totem pole and it would hurt less to see them go than the others.

The last two are where Bronson Reed fits in for my point of view.

I like him, but I can't say when he was gone, that I felt like there was a big void in WWE only he could fill, like I thought with some other releases.

Bronson Reed could be one of the super heavyweights of many other brands and a top guy in every promotion that he's a bigger fish in a smaller pond for.

5) JOBBER = Montez Ford

Argh. This hurts. I love Montez Ford. I want him to be a bigger deal than he already is. But I just think the other guys rank higher for the big picture, and I think Ford could pull off being a jobber people continue to enjoy watching, rather than the type that loses all their value and people get sick of them.

4) MIDCARD = Johnny Gargano

Argggh this hurts even more! Gargano is someone I'm hoping WWE molds into the next Daniel Bryan, in a sense, and we see him rise the ranks of becoming tag team champion (alongside Tommaso Ciampa, hopefully), intercontinental champion, and eventually, world champion.

But right now, with the way these guys currently are, he's simply not as equipped to take on a higher spot compared to the other three.

3) UPPER MIDCARD = Austin Theory

Clearly, Money in the Bank was overstepping and WWE felt they needed to pull back the reins. I don't agree with how they did it, and I think they took months to bring him back to a level slightly below where he was this time last year, but here's hoping that's just a temporary setback.

I want Theory as a future world champion. February 2023 isn't the time, I guess.

And I know it is funny that he's the defending champion going into this Elimination Chamber, but I'm not ranking him at the top.

2) MAIN EVENT = Damian Priest

Priest has had his midcard title runs, is big, solid on the mic, and knows what he's doing. Push him.

1) HALL OF FAME = Seth Rollins

Out of this group, there is no debate the strongest one to reach Legend status is definitely The Visionary.

Seth Rollins has achieved more than all the others combined.

WOMEN'S NO. 1 CONTENDER'S ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH

Asuka vs. Carmella vs. Liv Morgan vs. Natalya vs. Nikki Cross vs. Raquel Rodriguez

6) RELEASED = Nikki Cross

Ultimately, like with Bronson Reed, despite being a fan of her, I think Nikki Cross is the one that would make the least impact if she were taken off the roster.

Plus, she'd also make some of the biggest impact in another company. Nikki could easily go to Impact Wrestling, NWA or even AEW and be one of their top women.

That's true about the others, too, but they just happened to be overall higher priorities in WWE in general.

5) JOBBER = Natalya

She's well past the point in her career where she's the top dog who will be given a long run with the belt. Now, she's the veteran who will work with others to get them to hopefully higher levels than even she reached.

Also, Nattie flip flops between heel and face so often that if she were to be a jobber, she could put over every type of person on the roster.

4) MIDCARD = Carmella

Heel or face, she's a fun character who has had her moment in the sun and might be winding down her career. Time for her to play a backseat role compared to some others, while still contributing in a more serious way than the Jobber role.

I look at this as someone who could score a few wins and be in the title hunt in a multi-Superstar gimmick match (like Elimination Chamber) or form a tag team and go after those belts, but won't realistically have another run with the Raw or SmackDown Women's Championships.

With that in mind, Carmella strikes me as the best option.

3) UPPER MIDCARD = Liv Morgan

She's super popular, but I still think there are bigger fish to fry. Plus, she's good as the underdog, and when you're the main event top champion level, you lose that edge for people to root for you as much.

2) MAIN EVENT = Raquel Rodriguez

One of the bigger women on the roster who is on her upward swing. Given enough time, she'll hold one of the top two titles, for sure.

1) HALL OF FAME = Asuka

All these women have achieved enough to be worthy of a Hall of Fame induction, but no one has the same clout as The Empress of Tomorrow.

If anyone on this list was treated with HOF legend clout, it would be Asuka, who could easily win a world title at any time and I would believe it.

Those are my lists, but to see what Rob and Callum chose, as well as what our consensus debate rankings became, check out the podcast edition in this Darkcast via YouTube Channel Membership and Patreon!
