WWE SummerSlam 2023 Results |
Ricochet vs. Logan Paul
RESULT: Logan Paul won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: This was a very good match, and I'm not opposed to the brass knuckles finish, but I'll admit, they didn't have any moment-making spot that stands out to me. Rather than a big viral maneuver, they just had a series of good moves one after another. Lesser quality for each move, but bigger quantity than if this was a one-move match.
Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar
RESULT: Cody Rhodes won by pinfall.THOUGHTS: Very good match. I'll maintain my opinion that this doesn't make up for losing at WrestleMania by any means, though. It just helps rehab some of that. Glad to see Cody win this instead of WWE falling into familiar patterns of thinking a tough fight leading to a loss is just as beneficial as a win.
SummerSlam Battle Royal
RESULT: LA Knight won (by last eliminating Sheamus)
THOUGHTS: Yeah! I love me some battle royal action and I love it even more when the guy I'm rooting for wins.
MMA Rules Match: Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler
RESULT: Shayna Baszler won by technical submission.THOUGHTS: Pretty boring, to be honest. I'm at least glad Shayna won, though.
Intercontinental Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
RESULT: Gunther retained by pinfall.THOUGHTS: Solid match, but nothing too memorable, I'm sorry to say. Glad Gunther is still champion.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth "Freakin" Rollins (c) vs. Finn Bálor
RESULT: Seth Rollins won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Fine match, but it didn't do anything that we didn't see in the previous pay-per-view, so why bother just pretty much copying/pasting what we saw a few weeks back? Stop double-dipping.
WWE Women's Championship Triple Threat Match: Asuka (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Charlotte Flair
RESULT: Bianca Belair won the title with a pinfall over Asuka.
Iyo Sky is coming out with Bayley. We've got a Money in the Bank cash-in! It's official!
RESULT: Iyo Sky won the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Sloppy match with a surprising outcome followed by a predictable cash-in, but I'm down for Iyo Sky to be champion right now. I thought it would be Flair getting cashed in on, rather than Belair. Dakota Kai is here to celebrate, too.
Tribal Combat for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso
RESULT: Roman Reigns retained by pinfall.THOUGHTS: Slow and boring with a predictable and disappointing finish in that Reigns just cannot win anything on his own, apparently. It wasn't even shocking. I saw Jimmy doing this weeks ago. This wasn't worth weeks and weeks of the same repetitive promos and all, nor is it good enough to justify how Reigns will probably skip out on the next 2 or 3 events.
