WWE Elimination Chamber 2023 Results |
Elimination Chamber Match for the United States Championship: Asuka vs. Carmella vs. Liv Morgan vs. Natalya vs. Nikki Cross vs. Raquel Rodriguez
Starting the match are Natalya and Liv Morgan.
Pod Entry #1 is Raquel Rodriguez.
Pod Entry #2 is Nikki Cross.
Pod Entry #3 is Carmella.
Nikki Cross was eliminated by Raquel Rodriguez (pinfall)
Pod Entry #4 is Asuka
Liv Morgan was eliminated by submission (from both Asuka and Natalya at the same time)
Natalya was eliminated by Carmella (pinfall)
Raquel Rodriguez was eliminated from a double pinfall by both Asuka and Carmella at the same time
Carmella was eliminated by Asuka (submission) for the win.
RESULT: Asuka won and is Bianca Belair's No. 1 contender for WrestleMania.
THOUGHTS: Solid match. Nothing that happened here was too memorable, as the highlight of the whole thing was Liv Morgan's sunset flip power bomb, which was cool, but we've seen more grandiose spectacles for sure. Asuka winning makes sense. She's the biggest name of the bunch. I still just feel like they need to do a lot of work to make Asuka vs. Belair feel like THE best match worthy of WrestleMania, instead of "the best case scenario from what we've got right now", if you know what I mean. Love them both, but they haven't heated up Asuka enough to make her red hot in 2023 like she was in her NXT days or when she won the Royal Rumble to challenge Charlotte Flair at Mania.
Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar
RESULT: Bobby Lashley won by disqualification after Brock Lesnar hit him with a low-blow.THOUGHTS: Laaaaaaaaaame. The match was going so well and they had to do another non-finish. Stop dragging this out. If they're doing another match at WrestleMania, they didn't need this here. If they're NOT doing another match at WrestleMania, this should have been the conclusion of the feud. This started at WWE Day 1 2022, with points along the way at Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber (kind of), and Crown Jewel, and Royal Rumble again. C'mon.
Mixed Tag Team Match: Edge and Beth Phoenix vs. The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley)
RESULT: Edge and Beth Phoenix won by pinfall after a Shatter Machine.
THOUGHTS: This was as good as it could have possibly been. I liked it a lot. They really can't top it, so I hope that this is the end of this feud.
Elimination Chamber Match for the United States Championship:
Austin Theory (c) vs. Bronson Reed vs. Damian Priest vs. Johnny Gargano
vs. Montez Ford vs. Seth Rollins
Starting the match are Johnny Gargano and Seth Rollins.
Pod Entry #1 is Austin Theory
Pod Entry #2 is Damian Priest
Pod Entry #3 is Bronson Reed
Pod Entry #4 is Montez Ford
Bronson Reed was eliminated by Montez Ford
Johnny Gargano was eliminated by Damian Priest
Damian Priest was eliminated by Montez Ford
Montez Ford was eliminated by Austin Theory
Seth Rollins was eliminated by Austin Theory due to some help from Logan Paul's interference
THOUGHTS: Loved it. Every Superstar came out of this looking good, even in losses. Theory retaining ups the stakes for his WrestleMania match (likely against John Cena). Logan Paul interfering heats up his match with Rollins even more. Gargano had some crazy spots. Montez scored some eliminations to look strong. Priest taking out Gargano led to him getting some serious boos. Reed was only taken out after a ton of attacks and multiple finishers. You can't get better than how they booked this.
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Sami Zayn
RESULT: Roman Reigns retained by pinfall
THOUGHTS: Match of the Year candidate, for sure. The ending was a TAD flat for me by not pulling the trigger on Jey Uso's turn. I think that would have made more sense.
Kevin Owens is out to help fight off Jimmy and Roman. He takes both of them out with stunners, and a pop-up powerbomb to Jimmy on the commentary table. Then, after Paul Heyman goes after Owens, KO hits him with a stunner, too. He and Zayn share a look with each other after Zayn hits Roman with a Helluva Kick, but Owens then leaves and walks back up the ramp. No hugs.
