WWE Backlash 2023 Results

Raw Women's Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Iyo Sky

RESULT: Bianca Belair retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Rock solid opening match, as expected, given it is these two Superstars. I was surprised at how much the crowd was pro-Iyo.

Savio Vega is in the house! Backstage, he hands a kendo stick to Bad Bunny and hypes him up with Rey Mysterio.

Seth Rollins vs. Omos

RESULT: Seth Rollins won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Meh. It was fine for a match that means nothing, had zero build, and basically did zilch but reinforce that Omos is there to look like an impressive challenge that someone then beats.

United States Championship Triple Threat Match: Austin Theory (c) vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Bronson Reed

RESULT: Austin Theory retained by pinfall on Reed.
THOUGHTS: Saw that coming from a mile away. Exactly that finish. But hey, the match, for what it was worth, was still a good segment overall. For my money, Theory retaining was the right call, too.

SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Zelina Vega

RESULT: Rhea Ripley retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Functionally every minute of this went down the way I expected. They had a pretty clear picture they needed to paint and they did it.

Gotta love how you pay for Premium Plus to not get commercials but you still get commercials for Mike's and Fubar anyway. It's always ridiculous and I'll never stop complaining.

San Juan Street Fight: Bad Bunny vs. Damian Priest

RESULT: Bad Bunny won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: This was a really fun match (as expected). I loved the cameo run-ins from Carlito and Savio Vega. Bunny proves himself to be another one of those rare celebrities who can put on a damn good show. This should have been the main event.

Six-Man Tag Team Match: The Bloodline (Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa) vs. Matt Riddle, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

RESULT: The Bloodline won by pinfall (Sikoa pinned Riddle).
THOUGHTS: Fine. None of it really matters, though, since we're stuck in a holding pattern with these guys.

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar

RESULT: Cody Rhodes won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Solid match. Can't have your guy who should've won at WrestleMania win a match against Lesnar without it being a quick pin though, right? I'm sure WWE thinks this completely undoes all the momentum Rhodes has lost since Mania, but they're wrong. It helps, sure, but it doesn't mean he's back to where he was before taking that loss to Roman.
