AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 Results

ZERO HOUR (PRE-SHOW):

Mogul Embassy (Swerve Strickland, Brian Cage, Toa Liona, and Bishop Kaun) vs. Chaos (Rocky Romero, Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta) and El Desperado

RESULT: Mogul Embassy won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Solid match (you're going to see my say that a lot tonight, as I expect most matches to be just fine/good with nothing to really talk about).

Women's Owen Hart Cup Tournament First Round Match: Athena vs. Billie Starkz

RESULT: Athena won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Solid match. This is the first time I saw Starkz that I can remember and she seems like a good talent AEW should sign.

Stu Grayson vs. El Phantasmo

RESULT: El Phantasmo won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Solid match (wow, I'm already on repeat). Not something I thought really needed to be on the card, though.

United Empire (Jeff Cobb, Kyle Fletcher, and TJP) vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (Shingo Takagi, Bushi, and Hiromu Takahashi)

RESULT: Los Ingobernables de Japon won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: I missed a portion of this, but I got the result wrong from my predictions. I figured United Empire had this wrapped up.

MAIN CARD:

AEW World Championship Match: MJF (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

RESULT: MJF retained by pinfall by using the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
THOUGHTS: Simple and effective textbook heel/face dynamics here. Works for me.

Men's Owen Hart Cup Tournament First Round Match: CM Punk vs. Satoshi Kojima

RESULT: CM Punk won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Not my favorite match of the night so far, but it was okay. It's just a bland enough fight that enough of these are blending together as "fine, but forgettable" and this was "another one of them."

AEW International Championship Four-way Match: Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Katsuyori Shibata vs. Daniel Garcia

RESULT: Orange Cassidy retained by pinfall on Garcia.
THOUGHTS: A better match than the one that preceded it

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match: Sanada (c) vs. "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry

RESULT: Sanada retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Good, but again, nothing I'll remember in a month. The only real takeaway here is that Jungle Boy turned heel on Hook after the match. That's the long-lasting effect. But yeah, this was, say it with me, a solid match. Thumbs up overall.

10-Man Tag Team Match: Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli), Konosuke Takeshita, and Shota Umino vs. The Elite ("Hangman" Adam Page, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson), Eddie Kingston, and Tomohiro Ishii

RESULT: The Elite, Eddie Kingston and Tomohiro Ishii won by pinfall (Ishii pinned Yuta)
THOUGHTS: Kingston saving Moxley in the match will be an interesting note to pick up on for the future. This was good.

AEW Women's World Championship Match: Toni Storm (c) vs. Willow Nightingale

RESULT: Toni Storm retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Pretty straightforward match. Totally fine. They did a good enough job making Willow seem like she should have won.

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Will Ospreay

RESULT: Will Ospreay won the title by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: This is going on my Match of the Year list for sure. Awesome.

Trios Tag Team Match: Jericho Appreciation Society (Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara) and Minoru Suzuki vs. Sting, Darby Allin, and Tetsuya Naito

RESULT: Sting, Darby Allin and Tetsuya Naito won by pinfall (Naito pinned Suzuki)
THOUGHTS: Some flawed moments with the guys who weren't able to do as much, but it was fine enough for the sake of it. Like most of this card, it doesn't really matter, so it did its job overall.

Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada

RESULT: Bryan Danielson won by submission.
THOUGHTS: I was wrong not only about Danielson winning, but I also figured this match would end in a pinfall, rather than a submission. Very surprised about that. This was a good match, but I honestly think Ospreay vs. Omega was better.
