Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.
WWE Monday Night Raw
Alexa Bliss vs Bayley
Bayley vs Alexa Bliss was disappointing, as I expected much more from them considering how well they wrestled last week in their respective matches. It wasn't outright poor, but I know they could have used up another two gears to create a masterpiece.
Winner: Alexa Bliss
Rating: 2.5/5
Iyo Sky vs Candice LeRae
Whilst not an out and out trip to... let's say it together... Squash City, this was a great example of Iyo Sky possessing the ability to control and strangle the life out of her opponent.
Winner: Iyo Sky
Rating: 2/5
Rhea Ripley vs Asuka
Similarly to Alexa Bliss vs Bayley, I know there was much more on offer than what we received here. Both women looked good, but it was blatantly obvious that they didn't get out of second gear. Asuka appearing to return to her NXT persona was great, which is something I can get behind.
Winner: Rhea Ripley
Rating: 2.5/5
AEW Dark: Elevation
Emi Sakura vs Danni Bee
Squash City!
Winner: Squash City!
Rating: 2/5
Willow Nightingale vs Vertvixen
Squash City!
Winner: Willow Nightingale
Rating: 2/5
WWE NXT 2.0
Toxic Attraction vs Tatum Paxley & Ivy Nile
In all fairness, this was not much of a match, instead serving as a vehicle to get the NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter and Katana Chance involved. Unfortunately, this failed spectacularly, and I did not get any enjoyment out of this.
Winner: Toxic Attraction
Rating: 1.5/5
Lyra Valkyria vs Amari Miller
Squash City!
Winner: Lyra Valkyria
Rating: 2/5
Mandy Rose vs Roxanne Perez
So, let me address the elephant in the room. Mandy Rose was released this week due to concerns from WWE management about the content she was providing on her own sites, content which goes against the image that WWE want their wrestlers to portray. Do I agree with this? Not really, as I believe there could have been some compromise, with both parties guilty of something to destroy the professional working relationship.
Alas, nothing I say here will change the fact that Rose dropped the NXT Women's Championship to a red hot and ready Roxanne Perez, and despite the match being okay, Perez's coronation has been overshadowed by the fallout from Rose's release.
Winner: Roxanne Perez
Rating: 2.5/5
AEW Dark
Tay Melo vs Miranda Vionette
Squash City!
Winner: Tay Melo
Rating: 2/5
AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite: Winter Is Coming 2022
Ruby Soho vs Tay Melo
This was terrible! The feud has no real heat, and despite Ruby Soho and Tay Melo being capable of good matches, neither put on a good show here. It is almost embarrassing to see how far Soho's stock has fallen in AEW.
Winner: Ruby Soho
Rating: 1.5/5
Impact Wrestling
There were no Knockout's matches this week.
WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Damage CTRL vs Liv Morgan & Tegan Nox
There was no doubt here as to who would walk away with the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, but at least the action was better than what we have seen for most of 2022 within SmackDown's women's division. I do hope though that Tegan Nox is pushed heavily, as she could really bolster and benefit SmackDown's ailing women's division.
Winner: Damage CTRL
Rating: 2/5
WWE NXT Level Up
Ivy Nile vs Lash Legend
Another pathetic dose of banality and mediocrity. The women on NXT Level Up just cannot string together a good match, it would unfortunately seem.
Winner: Ivy Nile
Rating: 1.5/5
AEW Rampage
Britt Baker vs Skye Blue
Squash City! Britt Baker looked fabulous here!
Winner: Britt Baker
Rating: 2/5
MATCH OF THE WEEK:
Mandy Rose vs Roxanne Perez
Simply the best match in a mediocre week of women's wrestling.
WOMAN OF THE WEEK:
Roxanne Perez
She deserved to win the NXT Women's Championship, but she also deserved to not have the moment overshadowed.
So there you have it, the breakdown for the week in women's wrestling. What were some of your favorite and least favorite moments from these women? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
