The WWE SmackDown Women's Championship has changed hands as Ronda Rousey defeated Liv Morgan to win the title at Extreme Rules on October 8, 2022.
My immediate reaction: Yep. Called that one from a mile away. It's a shame Liv Morgan was given a weak Money in the Bank cash-in that was followed up with a fluke retention over Rousey, followed by just barely beating Shayna Baszler, and then losing to Rousey here. It makes Morgan's title reign look like she never deserved it and only lucked her way into the title. Granted, she's still going in the record books as a former champion, and once you win the belt, it gets easier to win it again as WWE can always treat you as a former champion for all future feuds. It's still better than nothing, no doubt, even though it isn't a strong run. While I can't say I was all that invested in Morgan's run to begin with, I also can't say I'm super thrilled for Rousey to have the title back. She's never been a character I've particularly bonded with and if they're just going to do Rousey vs. Becky Lynch again at WrestleMania...meh. I've seen it. Just like I didn't care about Rousey against Charlotte Flair again, why would I want to see this rerun with less enthusiasm behind it? Rehashing that doesn't trump doing something new that could be better. I guess we'll see.
Since this happened, be sure to check out the updated full list of title changes for this year and the list of current champions and my predictions for who will take the belts away from them.
