The WWE Raw Tag Team Championship has been unified with the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship as The Usos defeated RK-Bro on the May 20, 2022 edition of Friday Night SmackDown in a Winners Take All match.
My immediate reaction: It was clearly going to be The Usos, rather than RK-Bro. I'm of mixed feelings about unifying the titles. While I absolutely hate the idea of one world champion during a brand split, and I wouldn't want the Intercontinental or United States titles to be unified, nor the women's titles, the tag titles are a different animal. No matter how much fans beg for things to change, WWE just does not really care about the tag team divisions outside of short stints with particular champions. Having one set for both rosters sucks in some ways, like not giving certain teams a chance to win the titles (ie, Alpha Academy probably wouldn't have won the belts at all if there was just one set to fight for) but maybe, it'll streamline things and make it better overall. What I'm hoping for, more than anything else beyond that point, is that they get new tag title belts. Don't continue to carry around the awful sentinel head belts with red and blue straps and no side plates. Redesign them to look more like the women's titles (or something even better) and give it a black strap, WWE Tag Team Championship. Streamline it.
Since this happened, be sure to check out the updated full list of title changes for this year and the list of current champions and my predictions for who will take the belts away from them.
