Welcome to another edition of Triple Threat from Smark Out Moment, where three of us get together to discuss three questions based on one big topic going down in the week of professional wrestling.
This week, Dallas Allsopp, Bodeen Green and Callum Wiggins preview WWE Survivor Series 2021.
Despite the lack of a strong build, do we feel that Survivor Series 2021 will be worth watching?
Question 1: Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair - who comes out on top?
ALLSOPP: My head says Becky Lynch, but my heart says The Queen takes the victory. After all, it’s ‘LOL, Flair Wins’. I also believe that Liv Morgan can be a deciding factor to get into the mind of The Man, and causing her a shameful defeat to Charlotte Flair could lead to a red hot feud. Lynch can also take the loss better, as fans are infinitely more behind her than Flair.
GREEN: Well, this match could be a match of the year candidate… if only there was an actual build forit. The build for Survivor Series has felt all over the place. Whilst it is good to see WWE think of feuds after Survivor Series, it seems they have jumped the gun. With both women being some of the strongest built characters in WWE right now, I'm going to say that Charlotte Flair will get the win after Liv Morgan distracts Becky Lynch, or both women will either be counted out or cause a double disqualification finish.
WIGGINS: The result of this match is a coin toss - pretty much like every other match on this card - but I'm leaning towards Charlotte Flair to win. That is based on the belief that Liv Morgan will get involved, and her distraction will lead to Becky Lynch's downfall. But, it could just as easily end in a double disqualification, or ideally a real-life brawl if their backstage animosity bubbles to the surface during this match.
Question 2: Which brand will win the men’s Survivor Series match? Who will win the women’s?
GREEN: I can honestly think of a handful of names in both these matches, outside of Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio being kicked out of Team Raw, I can't think of the build for this match, I'm going to go for a Team Raw victory, with the women of Smackdown getting the win.
WIGGINS: Again, not with any degree of confidence of certainty, I have SmackDown winning the Men's Elimination match, and Raw for the Women’s. My rationale is that Drew McIntyre is likely to soon be challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship, so this is an ideal opportunity to build him up for that. Over on Raw, it could be a useful way to build up the credibility of Liv Morgan before she battles Becky Lynch for the Raw Women's Championship.
ALLSOPP: I cannot look past Team SmackDown, purely because the presence of Drew McIntyre is something you shouldn’t bet against in WWE. Team SmackDown is firing on all cylinders, therefore the power on Team SmackDown is too strong for me. Although Seth Rollins is a real x-factor for Team Raw.
In terms of the women, I believe Team SmackDown will also reign supreme. Removing Aliyah from the match must hopefully go somewhere, so I hope this feeds into the match finish.
Question 3: Who should win the battle of the World Champions? Is Big E a huge underdog going into the contest?
WIGGINS: The man that should win this match is Big E, because fundamentally, Roman Reigns has nothing to gain from winning this. His star power won't be greatly diminished, he'll still headline WrestleMania, and he'll still be viewed as "The Guy". But a win for Big E could really rubber-stamp him on a level playing field as WWE Champion, as he gives off the vibe of a midcarder. Having said that, I have no doubt Reigns will win regardless.
ALLSOPP: Roman Reigns. Every single day of the week, I would choose The Tribal Chief. He is the very epitome of star power in WWE, and there is no way he should be losing to Big E, who is still finding his feet as WWE Champion. I expect a close contest, but admittedly, Bug E is very much an underdog. A strong, valiant, but ultimately devastating loss to Reigns is truly the best he can hope for.
GREEN: Whilst this will be a great match and will have some close near falls for Big E, this is a another win for the Head of theTable, Roman Reigns. Roman is on a new level right now, and I don't see a chance of him losing until WrestleMania 38.
Those are our thoughts on the issue, but where do you stand?
