WWE Day 1 2022 Results

The scheduled match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship is off. Reigns tested positive for COVID-19. Instead, Lesnar's been inserted into the Fatal 4-Way for the WWE Championship, making it a Fatal 5-Way.

Kickoff Match: Cesaro and Ricochet vs. Sheamus and Ridge Holland

RESULT: Sheamus and Ridge Holland (who was taken out of the match for a broken nose) won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: This event surely isn't going the way WWE planned! After changing the main event, the first match sees the most featured guy suffer a broken nose and pulled from it. Yeesh. The match itself was fine for being an impromptu handicap match.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) vs. The New Day

RESULT: The Usos retained by pinfall
THOUGHTS: The "1D" instead of the 3D for the win took me by surprise. This was a damn good match.

Drew McIntyre vs. Madcap Moss

RESULT: Drew McIntyre won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: A do-nothing match, as expected.

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: RK-Bro (c) vs. The Street Profits

RESULT: RK-Bro retained by pinfall
THOUGHTS: Good match. Interesting dynamics with The Street Profits acting like heels. That could work for the future.

Edge vs. The Miz

RESULT: Edge won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: With a little help from Beth Phoenix evening the odds and offsetting Maryse, Edge gets a spear for the win. I figured Beth wouldn't show up until Raw, but now, there's even more confirmation we should have a mixed tag team match in the future.

Raw Women's Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Liv Morgan

RESULT: Becky Lynch retained by pinfall
THOUGHTS: This wasn't doing as much for me as I'm sure it was for other people. The ending was screwy, too. Sorry that I won't gush over it.

WWE Championship Fatal 5-Way Match: Big E (c) vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar vs. Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins

RESULT: Brock Lesnar won the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Actually a very fun match start to finish. I liked it a lot.

First impressions PPV grade: A–
