Women's Wrestling Weekly Recap & Review #347

Posted by Dallas Allsopp Monday, September 6, 2021

Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.

WWE Monday Night Raw

Rhea Ripley vs Shayna Baszler

Bland. Boring. Mediocre. Words to describe this match, even though they should never be associated with either woman. There was not much to like here, but at least Rhea Ripley was able to keep her impressive win / loss record intact.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

Rating: 2/5

Charlotte Flair vs Nia Jax

This was... something! After a fairly by the numbers contest, Charlotte Flair vs Nia Jax devolved into a slugfest. Both women seemed to be legitimately trying to hurt each other, before Flair fell to a surprise loss. Honestly, this was not too bad, but this is purely down to the spectacle it became.

Winner: Nia Jax

Rating: 2/5

AEW Dark: Elevation

Emi Sakura vs Ashley D'Amboise

Squash City!

Winner: Emi Sakura

Rating: 2/5

Big Swole & Julia Hart vs Nyla Rose & Diamante

Standard AEW women's tag team wrestling, with the heelish team picking up the victory with some superb teamwork.

Winner: Nyla Rose & Diamante

Rating: 2.5/5

Thunder Rosa vs Laynie Luck

Squash City!

Winner: Thunder Rosa

Rating: 2/5

Hikaru Shida vs Heather Reckless

Squash City!

Winner: Hikaru Shida

Rating: 2/5

WWE NXT

Mandy Rose vs Sarray

Whether or not Mandy Rose sustained a legitimate injury, I was fairly impressed with the story this match told. Yes, Rose stood no realistic chance against Sarray, but now she has a hook to her character that was not there before.

Winner: Sarray

Rating: 2/5

Raquel Gonzalez vs Jessi Kamea

Squash City!

Winner: Raquel Gonzalez

Rating: 2/5

AEW Dark

Selene Grey vs Kris Statlander

Squash City!

Winner: Kris Statlander

Rating: 2/5

Laynie Luck vs Emi Sakura

Squash City!

Winner: Emi Sakura

Rating: 2/5

The Bunny vs Sierra

Squash City!

Winner: The Bunny

Rating: 2/5

Heather Reckless vs Tay Conti

Squash City!

Winner: Tay Conti

Rating: 2/5

AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite

Tay Conti vs Penelope Ford

Tay Conti gained her revenge this week over Penelope Ford, who caused her loss to The Bunny on the previous episode of AEW Rampage. Ford fought hard, but she was no match for Conti, who once again proved she is a highlight of AEW's women's division.

Winner: Tay Conti

Rating: 2.5/5

Impact Wrestling

There were no exclusive Knockout's matches this week.

WWE NXT UK

Emilia McKenzie vs Amale

Emilia McKenzie has been working hard recently to make an impression in NXT UK, and with victory over Amale this week, she well and truly put herself into contention for the NXT UK Women's Championship.

Winner: Emilia McKenzie

Rating: 3/5

WWE Friday Night SmackDown

There were no women's matches on SmackDown this week, but Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair traded barbs on the microphone.

AEW Rampage

Kris Statlander vs Rebel & Jamie Hayter

I wasn't a big fan of this match, as they fell victim to the usual Handicap match tropes and clichés. Kris Statlander looked good, but it didn't increase my anticipation for her upcoming match with Britt Baker.

Winner: Kris Statlander

Rating: 2.5/5

AEW All Out 2021

Women's Casino Battle Royale

I thoroughly enjoyed this contest, as many women had opportunities to shine. I was impressed with Jade Cargill, Leyla Hirsch, and Thunder Rosa. I really wanted Rosa to win, but she was beaten by the wildcard entrant, Ruby Soho. The former Ruby Riott looked fired up, and she also looked good during her time in the match. Overall, this was a successful contest.

Winner: Ruby Soho

Rating: 3.5/5

Britt Baker vs Kris Statlander

In all honesty, I was not overly excited about this contest, but that was only due to the fact that Kris Statlander has stalled in the ring, although she remains hugely over with fans.

Both women worked hard to put on a strong match, with Statlander getting in a few near falls. Britt Baker was never losing this match, and submitted Statlander to a Lockjaw. Overall, this was a fun, if not spectacular match.

Winner: Britt Baker

Rating: 3/5

MATCH OF THE WEEK:

Women's Casino Battle Royale

This was a fantastic way to get many of the women on the show, and I was impressed with what they did with their opportunity.

WOMAN OF THE WEEK:

Ruby Soho

Talk about making your mark on your first night. Ruby Soho vs Britt Baker should be good!

DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE WEEK:

Nia Jax's Push

Why?!?
