Women's Wrestling Weekly Recap & Review #345

Posted by Dallas Allsopp Monday, August 23, 2021

Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.

WWE Monday Night Raw

Nikki A.S.H. vs Rhea Ripley

I was actually surprised to see a clear finish to this contest, as Charlotte Flair has made it her business to get involved as of late. She did come down to the ring, but it was Rhea Ripley who pulled out the victory. This was a decent, if not mindblowing contest.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

Rating: 2.5/5

Nikki A.S.H. & Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte Flair & Nia Jax

Designed to make Charlotte Flair look strong and desperate in equal measure, she teamed with Nia Jax in a forgettable and bland tag team match. A poor storyline and a boring match made for poor viewing.

Winner: Charlotte Flair & Nia Jax

Rating: 2/5

AEW Dark: Elevation

Diamante vs Julia Hart

Whilst not a complete squash, Diamante looked great in victory, whilst Julia Hart showed brief glimpses of improvement. Overall, this was highly satisfying.

Winner: Diamante

Rating: 2.5/5

Hikaru Shida vs Kiera Hogan

Not a bad showing from Kiera Hogan, who appears to have taken well to AEW. However, Hikaru Shida evidenced just why she was AEW Women's Champion. A fun contest that deserved to be featured on Dynamite or Rampage.

Winner: Hikaru Shida

Rating: 3/5

Thunder Rosa vs Ray Lyn

Squash City!

Winner: Thunder Rosa

Rating: 2/5

Jade Cargill vs Katie Arquette

Squash City!

Winner: Jade Cargill

Rating: 2.5/5

WWE NXT

There were no women's singles matches this week, but the promo duel between Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai was amazing!

AEW Dark

Tay Conti vs Rebecca Scott

Squash City!

Winner: Tay Conti

Rating: 2.5/5

Penelope Ford vs Masha Slamovich

I'm impressed with Penelope Ford's improvement in the ring over the last few months, and she once again killed it this week. In taking the victory, she has to be taken seriously as a threat within the division.

Winner: Penelope Ford

Rating: 2.5/5

Kris Statlander vs Kiera Hogan

Once again, Kiera Hogan impressed in defeat. Kris Statlander comfortably won, but again, she looks two steps behind what she was capable of before her injury.

Winner: Kris Statlander /p>

Rating: 2.5/5

Nyla Rose vs Tina San Antonio

Squash City!

Winner: Nyla Rose

Rating: 2/5

AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite

Thunder Rosa vs Penelope Ford

A fun contest that did both women favours for their reputations. Thunder Rosa was able to keep her recent streak alive, whilst looking as deadly as ever.

Winner: Thunder Rosa

Rating: 3/5

Impact Wrestling

Melina vs Brandi Lauren

Disappointing, but in all honesty, Melina is not the woman that the Knockout's division needs. Slow, plodding, and overall a mediocre contest, this was not a match to enjoy.

Winner: Melina

Rating: 2/5

WWE NXT UK

Meiko Satomura vs Stevie Turner

Meiko Satomura is a much better option to be NXT UK Women's Champion than Kay Lee Ray. She elevates talent in much better fashion, and that was clear in how well she made Stevie Turner look. Turner was never winning the belt, but I at least had fun watching her try.

Winner: Meiko Satomura

Rating: 3.5/5

Dani Luna vs Isla Dawn

The bery definition of by the numbers NXT UK women's wrestling, which is not a positive comment at all.

Winner: Dani Luna

Rating: 2/5

WWE Friday Night SmackDown

Tamina & Natalya vs Shotzi & Nox

Designed to make Shotzi and Nox look like viable challengers, this match served it's purpose well. But all four women look stupid as a result of such tedious wrestling.

Winner: Shotzi & Nox

Rating: 1.5/5

Bianca Belair vs Zelina Vega

Squash City!

Winner: Bianca Belair

Rating: 2/5

Bianca Belair vs Carmella

Squash City!

Winner: Bianca Belair

Rating: 2/5

AEW Rampage: The First Dance

Jade Cargill vs Kiera Hogan

Squash City!

Winner: Jade Cargill

Rating: 2/5

WWE SummerSlam 2021

Alexa Bliss vs Eva Marie

Absolute dud! Why was this match not on Raw? Actually, why did this match have to take place in the first place? An embarrassment to the women's division.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

Rating: 1/5

Nikki A.S.H vs Charlotte Flair vs Rhea Ripley

All three women worked hard to put on a compelling and dynamic match. Yes, the result was a given, but the journey to get there was great. I will shamefully admit that it was the right choice to have Nikki A.S.H. tap out instead of Rhea Ripley.

Winner: Charlotte Flair

Rating: 3.5/5

Bianca Belair vs Becky Lynch

Did you enjoy Becky Lynch's return to WWE? I hope you also enjoyed the burial of Bianca Belair, because that is exactly what happened. Believe it or not, this was a bigger bullshit outcome than Alexa Bliss vs Eva Marie!

Winner: Becky Lynch

Rating: 1/5

WWE NXT TakeOver 36

Raquel Gonzalez vs Dakota Kai

Lacking the fire I expected, this was almost a damp squib. Both women worked hard, but I actually struggled to take Dakota Kai seriously as the heel in this feud. I do not, however, look forward to Kay Lee Ray challenging Raquel Gonzalez for the belt.

Winner: Raquel Gonzalez

Rating: 2.5/5

MATCH OF THE WEEK:

Meiko Satomura vs Stevie Turner

A title match that genuinely recieved the attention it deserved.

WOMAN OF THE WEEK:

Becky Lynch

That huge pop says it all!

DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE WEEK:

Bianca Belair's Swift Defeat

Read this week's 'Triple Threat' to read how we as fans are not happy with Bianca Belair losing so decisively.
