Women's Wrestling Weekly Recap & Review #343

Posted by Dallas Allsopp Monday, August 9, 2021

Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.

WWE Monday Night Raw

Rhea Ripley vs Nia Jax

A forgettable and quite frankly insulting match for the former Raw Women's Champion.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

Rating: 1.5/5

Tamina vs Doudrop

Utter bullshit. Piper Niven deserves so much better than to be saddled with the awful gimmick of Doudrop.

Winner: Tamina

Rating: 1/5

Nikki A.S.H. vs Charlotte Flair

A No Holds Barred contest, this was a fun little match to cap off Raw. Nikki A.S.H. was in desperate need of a strong match, and she got that this week by defeating Charlotte Flair. Recovering the momentum she lost last week, Nikki can be taken seriously once again. Well, at least for a week. These two worked hard to put on arguably the best women's match on Raw for a number of weeks.

Winner: Nikki A.S.H.

Rating: 3/5

AEW Dark: Elevation

Red Velvet vs Angelica Risk

Squash City!

Winner: Red Velvet

Rating: 2/5

Kris Statlander vs.Ashley D’Ambiose

Squash City!

Winner: Kris Statlander

Rating: 2/5

Yuka Sakazaki vs. Dani Jordyn

Squash City! Well, almost.

Winner: Yuka Sakazaki

Rating: 2/5

WWE NXT

There were no women's matches this week.

AEW Dark

Kenzie Page vs Tay Conti

Squash City!

Winner: Tay Conti

Rating: 2/5

Hikaru Shida vs Madi Maxx

Squash City!

Winner: Hikaru Shida

Rating: 2/5

Diamante vs Leyla Hirsch

Squash City!

Winner: Leyla Hirsch

Rating: 2.5/5

Reka Tehaka vs Penelope Ford

Squash City!

Winner: Penelope Ford

Rating: 2/5

AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite: Homecoming

The Bunny vs Leyla Hirsch

The winner of this match would become the number one contender to the NWA Women's Championship, which actually gave an indication as to who would be most likely to win. Leyla Hirsch dominated the match to win, which is a great indication as to how well she will do against Kamille. I enjoyed the continued development of Hirsch, who continues to look like a badass.

Winner: Leyla Hirsch

Rating: 2.5/5

Impact Wrestling

Fire 'N’ Flava vs. Jordynne Grace & Rachael Ellering

Although this was a standard Knockout's tag team match, both teams do the division justice. Fire 'N' Flava are arguably the best team in the division, but Jordynne Grace and Rachael Ellering do indeed work well together. This was fun, setting up numerous potential storylines for the teams, especially with the newly single Tasha Steelz watching on.

Winner: Jordynne Grace & Rachael Ellering

Rating: 2.5/5

WWE NXT UK

Blair Davenport vs Xia Brookside

This was a fair contest, but it had no real heat to it. I was suprised to see Xia Brookside fall to Blair Davenport as she offers more to the NXT UK brand, but at the end of the day, are we even confident that NXT UK will still be operating this time next year?

Winner: Blair Davenport

Rating: 2/5

WWE Friday Night SmackDown

Tegan Nox vs Tamina

So Tegan Nox has seemingly found her first name again? That was truly the most interesting aspect to this contest, as Tamina stumbled around like an oaf until Nox picked up a surprise pinfall victory. Not worth the investment at all!

Winner: Tegan Nox

Rating: 1.5/5

Bianca Belair vs Zelina Vega

As good a talker as Zelina Vega is, she really does struggle in the ring. This was once again evident this week, with Bianca Belair even struggling to get a strong match out of her. Falling to the KOD, Vega lost the opportunity to receive a future shot at the SmackDown Women's Championship. Not a good match at all.

Winner: Bianca Belair

Rating: 2.5/5

MATCH OF THE WEEK:

Nikki A.S.H. vs Charlotte Flair

Nikki A.S.H. defied all odds to come out on top against her nemesis. This was a strong and entertaining match.

WOMAN OF THE WEEK:

Leyla Hirsch

Leyla Hirsch has developed into a solid wrestler, and this week she proved that by becoming the number one contender to the NWA Women's Chmapionship.

So there you have it, the breakdown for the week in women's wrestling. What were some of your favorite and least favorite moments from these women? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
