Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.
WWE Monday Night Raw
Natalya & Tamina vs Eva Marie & Doudrop
The shameful thing about this match is how Natalya's ankle injury was the most interesting thing that happened. This clearly affected the overall quality of the contest, but honestly, it was never going to be a five star classic. I do hope, however, that Natalya comes back soon and doesn't spend too much time out on the sidelines.
Winner: Natalya & Tamina
Rating: 1.5/5
Nikki A.S.H. vs Charlotte Flair
Where do I start with this match? It was uneven, uninteresting, and gave me no confidence at all that Nikki A.S.H. will be presented as a strong Raw Women's Champion. It was positive that this was the main event, but even the post match promo was poor.
Winner: Charlotte Flair
Rating: 1.5/5
AEW Dark: Elevation
Yuka Sakazaki vs Amber Nova
Squash City!
Winner: Yuka Sakazaki
Rating: 2/5
Thunder Rosa vs Myka Madrid
Squash City!
Winner: Thunder Rosa
Rating: 2/5
The Bunny & Madi Wrenkowski vs Kris Statlander & Tay Conti
Tay Conti and Kris Statlander continued their rich vein of form by dispatching of The Bunny and Madi Wrenkowski, who both offered some decent resistance. As a match that wasn't a basic squash contest, I did enjoy this, and would genuinely like to see what they could do in a rematch.
Winner: Kris Statlander & Tay Conti
Rating: 2.5/5
WWE NXT
Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro vs Franky Monet & Jessi Kamea
As much as I enjoy NXT's women's division, there is some level of apathy shared by some fans for what is essentially the lower to midcard of said division. Franky Monet continues to show some good character work, with the Robert Stone Brand angle coming across well. I just didn't enjoy the offense from Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro, but it was at least an acceptable contest. All four women are capable of better.
Winner: Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro
Rating: 2.5/5
AEW Dark
Red Velvet vs Alejandra Lion
Squash City!
Winner: Red Velvet
Rating: 2/5
Abadon vs Killa Kate
Squash City!
Winner: Abadon
Rating: 2/5
Diamante vs Big Swole
Diamante picked up the admittedly shocking win over Red Velvet this week, with both women putting on an extremely credible performance. Better than the standard Dark squash match, I was pleasantly pleased with their efforts.
Winner: Diamante
Rating: 2.5/5
AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen 2021
Julia Hart vs Thunder Rosa
Squash City!
Winner: Thunder Rosa
Rating: 2/5
Impact Wrestling
Kaleb with a K vs Taylor Wilde
Not a groundbreaking contest, with Taylor Wilde at least looking strong.
Winner: Taylor Wilde
Rating: 2.5/5
WWE NXT UK
Jinny vs Aoife Valkyrie
Jinny put on a rather impressive performance here, underlining just why she came to NXT UK with a level of excitement, mainly from her days with Progress. Aoife Valkyrie certainly worked hard, but she was unable to capitalise and fell to Jinny. Hopefully this will be the start of some truly memorable matches on NXT UK for Jinny, and not another false dawn.
Winner: Jinny
Rating: 3/5
Stevie Turner vs Aleah James
Unlike the previous match, this wasn't overly exciting. Stevie Turner looked good, but nowhere near the level of NXT UK Women's Champion, Meiko Satomura.
Winner: Stevie Turner
Rating: 2/5
WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Bianca Belair & Sasha Banks vs Carmella & Zelina Vega
This was a clear case of David vs Goliath, with Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks offering much more in terms of ring talent than Carmella and Zelina Vega. Surprisingly, the heels were more than able to take the fight to Belair and Banks, but the overall strength of The Boss prevailed. Whilst the match was fairly entertaining, it was clearly a set up for Banks' heel turn.
Winner: Bianca Belair & Sasha Banks
Rating: 2.5/5
MATCH OF THE WEEK:
Jinny vs Aoife Valkyrie
This was a surprisingly fun match, with Jinny coming across extremely well.
WOMAN OF THE WEEK:
Dakota Kai
Yes, the betrayal of Raquel Gonzalez has been a long time coming, but nevertheless, this was a fun segment that truly put over King Kota as a monster!
MOMENT OF THE WEEK:
Sasha Banks' Heel Turn / Dakota Kai's Betrayal of Raquel Gonzalez
Certainly a week for betrayals, both Sasha Banks and Dakota Kai deserve the plaudits for their successful turns.
