Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
CM PUNK RETURNS
Well, WWE may still pull something big out of the bag at SummerSlam, but I am pretty sure that CM Punk's return to wrestling has already garnered the biggest pop this week, month, or even year.
For years, CM Punk vowed that he was done with wrestling, or, at best, that he would return under a mask and do a one-off indy show that nobody would know about.
I loved CM Punk during his WWE run, but, admittedly, did star to sour on him after the years of hearing his somewhat negative attitude to the fans. However, after the, captivating, promo he cut on his AEW debut, I can see it more from his perspective, and I am sure anyone who has experienced sheer burn out can too.
This will be interesting...
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
NOT SO GOLD
Bobby Lashley vs. Goldberg was always going to feel like the lesser title bout when measured against Roman Reigns vs. John Cena, but none of the build thus far has done anything to narrow that gap.
Goldberg might be a draw for a lapsed fan, which I am sure is the idea, but one of the few matches he has left on his contract feels wasted here. There is little to gain should Lashley beat Goldberg, as it not like his dominance has been under question, and it is already painfully obvious that Lashley is the more powerful athlete of the pair.
I cite that spear on Raw as my closing argument...
Extra Heat: I loved the return of Edge to his Brood persona, but man did the crowd's lack of reaction to the music and bloodbath kill it for me. Forshame!
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
