The following are my predictions for the 2021 WWE NXT TakeOver 36 PPV. Check back for NXT TakeOver 36 results and review coverage here when the time comes.
WWE NXT TakeOver 36 Spoilers and Predictions |
NXT Championship Match: Karrion Kross (c) vs. Samoa Joe
I'm SO glad Joe was cleared to return to action. That's a massive positive going on. Kross has joined the Raw roster, so he has to relinquish this championship in some fashion. Now that he's lost to Jeff Hardy, there's
no need to protect Kross as much. I expect Joe takes the belt so Kross can go up to Raw permanently.
PREDICTION: Samoa Joe wins the title.
NXT Women's Championship Match: Raquel Gonzalez (c) vs. Dakota Kai
We all knew that Dakota Kai was going to turn on Raquel Gonzalez at some point. It was just a matter of when, not if. This is the natural order of things. As such, the natural order of what happens after that is that Gonzalez will most likely win and send Kai packing. At this point, she's reached a level where she should just come up to the main roster instead of staying in NXT. However, WWE's made crazier decisions before and it's not entirely impossible Kai wins the title and it's Gonzalez who comes up to Raw or SmackDown, instead.
Still, I'm going with the safer option of the champion retaining. I think Franky Monet is the next in line, not Kai.
PREDICTION: Raquel Gonzalez retains the title.
NXT UK Championship Match: WALTER (c) vs. Ilja Dragunov
These two are going to beat the tar out of each other, and I'm totally down for it. The end result is a bit up in the air. Going back to Dragunov gives me the impression they want to give him the belt more so than to just keep it on WALTER, who has held it for so much significantly longer than they're used to for champions. However, it's been on WALTER this long that they might keep it on him even longer and have never had any plans to get rid of him as champion. For that matter, Davey Boy Smith Jr may be the next in line instead of Dragunov.
I'm split 50/50. However, if I absolutely had to pick, I'd go with the title changing hands since they're doing it at this show instead of just on NXT UK television. That must give Dragunov an edge.
PREDICTION: Ilja Dragunov wins the title.
Million Dollar Championship Match: LA Knight (c) vs. Cameron Grimes
If Grimes loses, Ted DiBiase becomes LA Knight's butler. The third time is definitely the charm. Grimes is winning that belt, for sure.
PREDICTION: Cameron Grimes wins the title.
2-Out-of-3 Falls Match: Adam Cole vs. Kyle O'Reilly
The first fall will be a standard match. Fall #2 is a Street Fight. The final fall will take place inside a steel cage.
This match should be great. I can't imagine they don't tear the house down. Admittedly, I'm a little disappointed a cage is the third fall, as that's not final enough in my mind, nor does it make much sense for the two of them. However, they'll make it work as well as they can.
O'Reilly pretty much has to win this, right? Cole may not be in the company anymore, or at least not on NXT if he moves up to the main roster. O'Reilly is the babyface. It checks off all the boxes for him to come out on top of the feud.
PREDICTION: Kyle O'Reilly wins.

Kickoff Match - Ridge Holland vs. Trey Baxter
Curious why this has been added to the card. Not only is the pre-show a rather quick affair, but this isn't exactly some hot feud going on that they needed to get on here. If anything, I would have thought a series of other matches could have taken place instead, as we have three titles not factored into this show.
Holland wins what could end up being a squash. He's a heavyweight and someone they were pushing. Baxter's a cruiserweight and they always lose.
PREDICTION: Ridge Holland wins.
