Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
WOODS YOU BELIEVE THAT?
Xavier Woods defeating Bobby Lashley was an amazing surprise, yet I am a little torn in placing this as my pop choice. I am one of those that believe that the main champion should rarely, if ever, get beaten in singles competition if the title is not on the line.
The idea of having to defeat the champion to maybe get a chance to defeat the champion is silly, and I do not think the champion should look weak like that.
However, in the context of this narrative, I do not mind it so much. In fact, it is actually pretty decent story telling. Bobby has not been looking so almighty as of late, and it is down to the distractions MVP has placed before him. The parties and woman have caused him to take his eye off the ball and lose the instinct that got him there in the first place. Bobby finally came to realise that, and his destruction of the VIP lounge was an excellent way to illustrate that the fun and games stop now.
I would love to see Kofi Kingston get a 2nd reign as WWE Champion, but, at the same time, I am not quite ready to see the reinvigorated almighty era come to an end just yet.
Bonus Pop: Crowds Return - The crowds have returned. Enough said.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
WOODEN PROMO
We all know that WWE is overly scripted, with only a very select few permitted to work on a bullet point basis, but even if the script is wooden and hokey, the majority can make the best of a bad situation and still have a good go at selling what they are given.
However, Eva Maria on this week's edition of Alexa's Playground? If ever there was a performance to take you out of the wrestling fantasy, then this was it. Not Alexa Bliss acting ooky spooky, but Eva bloody Maria saying ordinary words.
Holy hell was it bad. She had clearly taken great pains to memorize the few lines she had, but seemingly had forgotten how to act like a human being in the process.
I know many people say that this is the point of Eva Maria, and she is an amazing heel for winding people up so much, but I am not yet convinced it is by design. It would not surprise me if WWE still think of her as a beloved face.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
