Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
MIX MATCH MAGIC
Is it just me, or does any body else think that Seth Rollins has better screen chemisty with Bayley than his own wife, Becky Lynch? Either way, I am loving the pairing, and thoroughly enjoyed their match against Cesaro and Bianca Belair.
I know that inter-gender tag matches are not everyone's cup of tea, but I always enjoy it when they come about, and I think the rarity of them makes them feel like something special. At a time where the potential for fresh match ups is running thinner by the week, this was a welcome break to switch things up a bit. Plus, it did not hurt that all the competitors were premium talent too!
Thankfully, the draft will help make the shows feel new again, but these are always a fun way to do it in the interim.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
LET THE WRITE ONE IN
This past week we learnt the amazing fact that one of the core Raw writers did not know the name of the current WWE Champion.
Appearing on the Asian Not Asian podcast, Kenice Mobley admitted being surprised that she was hired by WWE, as had next to no interest or knowledge of the product. She went on to illustrate this wonderfully by mentioning that there is 'this big black dude' on the show, and that his name was something like Bobby Ashley.
Yikes.
I think that it is fair to say that Mobley could have done more reasearch, but real issue here is with WWE. Their process for hiring writings is insane. She told that them she did not know the product, and they did not see it as a problem. In fact, they told her that they prefer it that way!
Will the embarrassment force WWE to reconsider their stance on hiring writers who like wrestling to, well, write wrestling? Probably not, but it is nice to dream...
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
