Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
HAVE ANOTHER GO JOE?
In an ideal world, the events that lead to this Pop choice would never have happened in the first place, but, sometimes, one just has to roll with the punches and focus on the positives.
Samoa Joe was recently spotted at the Performance Centre, and there are now suggestions circulating that WWE may sign him again.
On one hand, this is madness, as they only let him go two months ago, but, on the other, it is Samoa Joe that we are talking about here, and it would be hard to not get about excited about some form of return.
I would personally love him back wrestling on Raw or SmackDown, as they never quite pulled the trigger on his full potential there, but if the guy is only interested in an NXT return, who could really blame him? They knew how to treat him down there.
A word of advice though if I may, Joe? As much as you deserve one, try to not negotiate too good a contract....
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
MIRROR MADNESS
The further Alexa Bliss gets from her original take on the creepy girl role, the less I find myself invested in anything she touches.
What worked in small doses as the playful sidekick to Bray Wyatt is far less palatable when she is on her own, and what better way illustrates this than her much derided dealings with Shayna Bazler? Both are doing what they can with the material given to them, but that does not stop it from being all sorts of bad.
Bless WWE for coming up with something different as the Raw main-event, but did they learn nothing from the failings of WCW? The mirror malarkey with Lilly and Bazler was not remotely scary, and a large part of this was because of how similar it felt to the hilariously bad Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior mirror moment. Are we to meant to believe that Shayna has gone mad and is seeing something that is not there? Would that not also mean that we, the viewers, were also mad? I guess it must do.
Why else do we keep coming back week after week?
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
