Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.
WWE Monday Night Raw
Charlotte Flair vs Dana Brooke
This was nothing more than a simple squash for Charlotte Flair, allowing her to gain some momentum after being added to the Raw Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania Backlash. Dana Brooke clearly tried hard to offer some resistance, but the gulf in class was stark here as Flair easily submitted her to the Figure Eight.
Winner: Charlotte Flair
Rating: 2/5
Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler vs Naomi & Lana
A genuinely poor Women’s Tag Team Championship match, as no single party looked strong here. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler never really looked like losing, which hurt the overall value of the match.
Winner: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler
Rating: 1.5/5
AEW Dark: Elevation
Abadon vs Ryo Mizunami
I was eagerly anticipating this matchup, but neither woman managed to create a truly compelling narrative. Abadon won via a Cemetery Driver, which is a much better outcome than her recent matches. I just expected more from both women.
Winner: Abadon
Rating: 2.5/5
Madi Wrenkowski vs Nyla Rose
Squash City.
Winner: Nyla Rose
Rating: 2/5
Red Velevet vs Reka Tehaka
Although Red Velvet put in a perfectly solid effort, Reka Tehaka just did not leave a positive impression.
Winner: Red Velvet
Rating: 2.5/5
Thunder Rosa vs Willow Nightingale
Simply the worst match for Thunder Rosa in AEW, but this was 110% down to the piss poor offering from Willow Nightingale.
Winner: Thunder Rosa
Rating: 1.5/5
WWE NXT
Sarray vs Zayda Ramier
Sarray benefitted more from this match than Zeyda Ramier, but the contest itself should have featured an additional five minutes for both women to truly showcase their skills. Sarray secured the pinfall victory following a T-Bone Suplex, setting her up as a real force within NXT’s women’s division.
Winner: Sarray
Rating: 2.5/5
Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon vs The Way
This match was for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship, with both teams putting on a fabulous performance. The action was frantic and exciting, putting the main roster equivalent to shame. The Way stole the victory in order to set up the division for an interesting change of direction.
Winner: The Way
Rating: 4/5
AEW Dark
Leyla Hirsch vs Diamante
Leyla Hirsch once again solidified the danger she poses in AEW by easily submitting Diamante. This match was more competitive than I had anticipated, coming across as the best women’s match showcased on AEW Dark for quite some time.
Winner: Leyla Hirsch
Rating: 3/5
Big Swole vs Megan Bayne
Squash City.
Winner: Big Swole
Rating: 2/5
Kilynn King vs Julia Hart
Squash City 2: Electric Buggaloo.
Winner: Kilynn King
Rating: 2/5
The Bunny vs Leila Gray
The Bunny once again gave glimpses of her potential as she easily put Leila Gray away.
Winner: The Bunny
Rating: 2/5
AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite
Britt Baker vs Julia Hart
Serving as nothing more than an example of the threat posed to Hikaru Shida’s AEW Women’s Championship, this was a great squash victory for Britt Baker.
Winner: Britt Baker
Rating: 2/5
Impact Wrestling
Susan vs Taylor Wilde
I like how Taylor Wilde has returned to IMPACT Wrestling in quite a strong manner, but this match was the very definition of ‘meh’. Not overly bad, but not entertaining either.
Winner: Taylor Wilde
Rating: 2/5
Kiera Hogan vs Rachael Ellering
This match allowed Rachael Ellering to come across as a strong force within the Knockout’s division. Kiera Hogan put up quite the fight, but she fell to a Bosswoman Slam.
Winner: Rachael Ellering
Rating: 2/5
WWE NXT UK
There were no women's matches on this week's show.
WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Carmella vs Ruby Riott
Carmella made her long awaited return to the ring (at least in this writer’s humble opinion) and made her presence known as she easily submitted Ruby Riott to a Code of Silence. This was a fantastic way to make her seem like a credible threat again, and I look forward to how this will be expanded on.
Winner: Carmella
Rating: 2.5/5
MATCH OF THE WEEK:
Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon vs The Way
This was a prime example of NXT upstaging their main roster equivalent.
WOMAN OF THE WEEK:
Carmella
Carmella returned to the ring to prove she has not lost a step, making her threat on the blue brand known.
