WWE WrestleMania 2022 Results |
NIGHT 1 - APRIL 2:
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) vs. Rick Boogs and Shinsuke Nakamura
RESULT: The Usos retained by pinfall
THOUGHTS: Here's hoping Rick Boogs isn't actually injured. Strange to start the show with the heels retaining their titles, unless that wasn't the plan and the injury changed things up.
Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin
RESULT: Drew McIntyre won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: In a super generic match, the two noteworthy moments were McIntyre jumping over the top rope and kicking out of the End of Days. The first thing was awesome, the second thing is something I'm disappointed happened just to try to make this feel like a more important feud than what it was.
The Miz and Logan Paul vs. Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio
RESULT: The Miz and Logan Paul won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Generic match with a surprise ending and an even bigger surprise with The Miz hitting a Skull Crushing Finale on Logan Paul. What?
Raw Women's Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Bianca Belair
RESULT: Bianca Belair won the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: THANK. FUCK. This was a great match (easily the best so far, but that's not saying much) and the right call was made.
Seth Rollins vs. Cody Rhodes
RESULT: Cody Rhodes won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Great segment. I'm glad to have Cody back in the mix in WWE and that he's been treated like a major star with no swervy twists for the sake of ha has. Big thumbs up.
SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ronda Rousey
RESULT: Charlotte Flair retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: I'm surprised they didn't go with Rousey. However, I have a sneaking suspicion they did this both to swerve people and because they want to drag it out to WrestleMania Backlash.
The New Day vs. Ridge Holland and Sheamus
RESULT: This match was cut for time constraints.
THOUGHTS: Plagued. Everything Ridge Holland and Sheamus touch runs into problems.
Kevin Owens Show with Stone Cold Steve Austin
After talking a bit, Owens admitted this was more about challenging Austin to a No Holds Barred match than to actually chat. Austin accepted and we're off to the races!
No Holds Barred Match: Kevin Owens vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin
RESULT: Stone Cold Steve Austin won by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Very cool that this happened. It doesn't make up for the bad parts of the night and the build to WrestleMania, nor does that mean tomorrow can be a shit show and WrestleMania 38 as a whole was a success, but this was definitely a major positive for this season in more ways than one.

NIGHT 2 - APRIL 3:
Raw Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match: RK-Bro (c) vs. Alpha Academy vs. The Street Profits
RESULT: Randy Orton and Riddle retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Rock solid opening match. I maintain this wasn't as good as it could have been to split Orton and Riddle and have a singles match, but at least this was a fun segment.
Bobby Lashley vs. Omos
THOUGHTS: This never would have been on my fantasy card, but at least the right call was made. Lashley winning will help him be a more viable contender for the world title(s) coming up.
Anything Goes Match: Sami Zayn vs. Johnny Knoxville
RESULT: Johnny Knoxville won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: This was great.
Women's Tag Team Championship Fatal 4-Way Match: Carmella and Queen Zelina Vega (c) vs. Sasha Banks and Naomi vs. Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley vs. Natalya and Shayna Baszler
RESULT: New tag team champions Sasha Banks and Naomi by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Good match. Obviously, they threw this together at the last minute without the whole proper setup and having teams established for the division, but this segment in and of itself was fun.
AJ Styles vs. Edge
THOUGHTS: It looks like we've got the formation of a stable going on with Damian Priest helping Edge out. At face value right now, I'm down for it.
The New Day vs. Ridge Holland and Sheamus
RESULT: Sheamus and Ridge Holland won by pinfall.THOUGHTS: This was like 2 minutes long and the wrong people won. What are they thinking? If you say "they didn't have enough time", you're ignoring how there were 4 hours of a kickoff and God knows how many minutes wasted on recaps and video packages. They had more than enough time. If you say "Well, it's 3-on-2, so that's why they won", it's still a depressing outcome for nothing other than to be a bummer. And this feud has sucked anyway. What a total flop.
Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory
RESULT: Pat McAfee won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: McAfee has impressed every time he's been in the ring. This guy's great!
After the match, McAfee talked some trash to Vince McMahon, who took off his jacket, tie and shirt and we have another impromptu match!!!
Pat McAfee vs. Vince McMahon
RESULT: Vince McMahon won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: McMahon won the match by casually punting a football into McAfee. That is amazing.
Winner Takes All Match: Universal Champion Roman Reigns (c) vs. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar (c)
RESULT: Your unified champion is Roman Reigns by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Good match. The ending was a little flat for me, but I'm glad Reigns won this.
