Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
DOCUMENTARY DELIVERS
I was very down on what felt like a weak build for the Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn WrestleMania match. I did not feel that it was the ending the Sami conspiracy story deserved, and a feud between these two should have been left for another day.
However, the reveal of the documentary trailer, amusingly rated "T" for truth, and all that unfolded, has given me reason to care for this match once more. Zayn was full on nut job with his conviction here, and, credit where credit is due, Logan Paul was a surprisingly great addition. He was a supporting player here, not the star, and seemed very happy to take part. His acting was naturalistic, detracted nothing from the feud, and I am actually intrigued by his inclusion at WrestleMania.
My only disappointment with this segment? That I suspect the trailer is all we will get to see of the actual documentary!
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
LOCKER ROOM COWARDICE
I enjoyed the bounty hunter scenario on Raw with Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre. It was a good way to throw obstacles at Drew whilst keeping his actual ring time with Lashley to a minimum before the show of shows. However, there was a glaring problem with it.
Drew had to almost plead with the locker room to take up the challenge, yet his requests were largely met with cowardice.
He should have fought them off left, right, and center, but, apparently, most of the men did not think a main event spot at WrestleMania was worth the risk. Heck, even Braun Strowman was not that interested.
Sure, it makes Drew and those who did step up, such as Ricochet, look great! But was it worth it at the cost of the reputation of a large chunk of the roster?
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
