Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
ROYCE USES HER VOICE
It is a shame that Peyton Royce's Raw Talk speech was not saved for the main show, as it was very engaging, and served as a good reminder as to why she was, once upon a time, rumored for a monster push.
This did not feel scripted, or, if it was, then must have been bullet point notes only. What Royce had to say felt very much from the heart, and was instantly more effective at getting her character across than anything she had done as part of her dull tag-team with Mandy Rose.
Does anything about her presentation in that pairing suggest that Royce loves this industry? Or is that passionate and determined? No! If anything, it is her best friend, the supposed lesser IIconic, who has done far better for herself with her goofy antics on SmackDown.
Peyton was on the money when she said that it is the same people on top in her division, with many below never getting their chance.
Here is hoping that this actually leads somewhere.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
CIAO FOR NOW ANDRADE?
It would be hyperbole to say that WWE has become a sinking ship when it comes to talent leaving, but, at the very least, there is clearly a hole that needs plugging. For we have now learnt that Andrade is the latest to (try) and leave WWE, but, contrary to the first reports, this was not actually granted, and, for now, he remains part of the company.
Can we blame him?
Despite a very positive start, his booking got worse and worse as time passed, and he has barely been used since. The stable he was in with Zelina Vega had so much potential, but some how amounted to nothing more than an astronomical amount of losses in their pursuit for the Raw tag team titles.
How the heck does WWE not know what to do with this guy? He has all the charisma and moves to make it big in this world, and had the perfect mouth piece in Vega to make up for any shortfalls with promos.
What is even more baffling is his engagement to Charlotte in relation to this. Surely, with her being their Golden Girl, one would think that they would at least try to do right by him for her sake?
Not to encourage nepotism, but, let us face it, nobody would begrudge him getting a favour here or there.
This could still be fixed if WWE really wanted to try, but, given that they allowed Christian to slip through their fingers, I do not have the greatest faith in WWE's contract negotiation skills at this time.
What a waste.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
